Last night I BF'ed a 3 mo (not mine)

So last night I was at a friend's house and she offerend me to BF her 3 mo who had not nursed since 3 days old. The baby latched right on and drank a full meal (yay, that way I didn't have to pump!).

Is is common for a baby who has basically never nursed to be able to latch on like that? (they didn't stop nursing due to any latch issues, they stopped at 3 days due to some mental illness stuff).

Go you for nursing that babe! I think it depends on the baby. My ds never took a bottle and then one day so his friend take a bottle of ebm and then he took the bottle happily. A little peer pressure I guess.

I've heard a lot of bottle fed babies latch right on just fine if nursed by another mom. I think it's fascinating

That is great news for a friend of mine who is planning to adopt a baby and induce lactation!

somewhere on Dr. Jack Newman's site he says a 4-6 week old will latch on to anything. <shrug>

I have twins - R bf from the beginning. M was in nicu and wouldn't latch after a few days. Had to bottle feed him ebm. Then one day when he was hungry, he started nuzzling my chest. I sat down, put him on aand we were off and running. It was the biggest and best accomplishment of my life! (although I had given up, it was all him)
