I'm in the hospital

not giving birth...

On friday night I felt "not right" then had the worst night ever on friday night (contractions every 10 minutes, but I couldn't breathe through them and my heart went all crazy. Saturday morning I woke up feeling weird again, an Olive wasn't moving enough. I called my midwives and they had me come in for monitoring. I thought they were just going to listen to her heartbeat and they'd let me go. Instead, when I got to the hospital my blood oxygen was really low and my hands and arms started going numb and swelling. The next few hours are a blur, but I ended up with 3 arterial blood gases taken, a chest x-ray and a cat scan...along with 12-17 vials of blood drawn.

Apparently I have a blood clot in my left lung and need to be in the hospital on blood thinners until I deliver...which could be weeks. They are trying to hold off my birth until this clot desolves, but we'll see.

I am really sad that I will be away from my 4 year old this long and my "uncomplicated birth" is out of the window. After giving birth I have to be on blood thinners for at least a year.

OMG I'm so sorry! I will be praying you have loving medical staff to take care of you during this time.

Oh Emily, I'm so so sorry that you are going thru this right now!!! BUT I AM SO GLAD THEY FOUND THE CLOT before something bad happened. Zoe misses you I'm sure, but would rather you be around for 80 more years than not. you're in the right place, and Olive will be here before you know it. Try to stay positive if you can mama, and I'll keep praying for you!!!

I am trying to kep the attitude that it is better to know and be int he hopital for weeks than to not know and have a stroke...it's is hard not to be sad though...at least I have my hud=sband's laptop for a bit everyday to keep me sane!

Oh Emliy! How very scary! And even though it's very hard to be away from Zoe, I am SO very glad that you are in the hospital getting monitored and such! (Not to frighten you, but this is how we lost our dear friend a few weeks ago (a blood clot in her lung that moved...) and I would NOT want to lose you!!)

Hang in there and I will keep you in my prayers!!!!!!

Oh, I am so sorry mama! Thank goodness it was found before something worse happened. It sounds like you are in the right place right now for your health and for Olive's. Please keep us posted!!

Oh my goodness - how scary. I'm so glad they found out before something really awful happened. We will pray for you. I know it's so hard to be away from your daughter. Just remember it will only be a flicker in her memory. She is so lucky to have a mama like you.

Thank God they got it! I know its hard, but Zoe will be so much happier having you alive and well than if what could have happened had happened. hugs to you, i hope everything is smooth here on out.

Emily,
I am so sad to hear about your clot, but glad to be hearing it from you because you're still here. I'm sorry you're losing your uncomplicated birth, but pray that you and babe will make it safely through this and come out of it healthfully and happily.

If you have to be on thinners for the next year will you still be able to nurse?

Hugs to you, mama. Be well, I'm keeping you in my thoughts.

I am so sorry for this turn of events. But like you said, it is better to know now. It could have been a fatal problem later, and that just would not have been good.

So, try and take it easy, and keep us all posted on your progress. It is nice to have a laptop! Isn't it?

It is nice to have it here, but when Dh goes back to work tomorrow, he'll take it back...and I will be bored again.

That makes things worse!

Perhpas he will bring it back every evening and you can catch up!

If only the hospital would provide them! Wouldn't that be a great "perk" for a hospital?!

I'm so glad you sought help when you didn't feel right! And I'm so sorry you are spending the last few weeks this way! Hope you heal, have a great birth regardless of location, and everyone is fine!!

Good news is I will probably be moved from critical care to maternity care tomorrow, with a change of meds that is much gentler on baby....let's hope...maternity care is so much more personal and accomodating!
