HELP! Want's to make cloth diapers but don't know where to start

Hello ladies! I am TOTALLY new to cloth diapering but I am not new at sewing so I am hoping I can save some money and attempt to make some before baby comes, and maybe even for my 21 month old ( and she is NOT thinking about potty training at the moment...or maybe I am not?...hmm). Anywho, I was wondering if someone can help me out with these quick questions.

1- How many layers am I cutting out? I am thinking its two.

2- If it is two what should the outside and inside layer be made of? What kind of material and why?

3- I would like to make diapers with the inserts attached. What material should I use for these inserts?

4- If I decide to use the pocket diapers, what kind of material should I stuff the diaper with?

5- Please direct me to a easy to use diaper pattern site.

6- What tools will I need all together to make these diapers.

I know your like these answers are all online but I also know that some mama's use different things that worked for them that may not be mentioned, so I am hoping to explore my options with these questions. I am so excited to possibly be doing a good service to earth, my babies, and my dh pockets!

Thanks in advance:

here is an easy pattern. This is for a soaker you would make this out of a heavy weight fleece or wool. If you click to the left under the "free RRP pattern" it shows you a very easy cheap way to make a fitted. You could stuff these with prefolds, microfiber towels, or make your own inserts. Have fun .

I would offer advice but I am in the same boat. Thanks for asking some of the same questions I had.

I have heard that cotton is good for the inside and wool/fleece for the outside.

I personally am sewing in the plastic mattress cover material inbetween the inner and outer layers as an extra sense of security. I know I would really tick some people off if my child peed on them...hehe.
There is a thread somewhere on this site that has links to a bunch of pattern sites...some free and some for charge. Or just google free cloth diaper pattern

Have fun....diaper making actually seems rather addicting!

There is tons of info out there - I agree on the Diaper Jungle sewing link and the stickie at the top of this forum. You'll soon be addicted!
