Checking on a job

I interviewed for a job I really want last Weds. I haven't heard anything yet. Is there any tactful way to call and ask?

First make sure you have sent a Thank-You for the interview.

At the week mark I think it would be ok to call and just say "Thank you again for the interview last week. I just wanted to let you know I am still interested in the job and if you have any question you can reach me at xxx-xxx-xxxx."

Thank yous are done. I actually just made a call to make sure they received my transcript, etc. that I dropped of last week. I only got a machine. I hope I hear soon!

I guess they didn't give you a timeframe? I too think 1 week or so would be anough time to call and ask/hint.
