AAP changes stance

Thread Starter
I guess I missed this back in June. Apparently, the AAP changed their vaxing stance from educating parents and treating unvax'd kids to allowing doctors to dismiss unvax'd kids from their offices. We were recently dismissed from our family care providers for us. So annoying. Anyone have more information or thoughts?

It bothers me a lot. We see a regular doctor once or twice a year if that, so it's not that big of a deal, but I really liked our family doctor. The practice, not our doctor, made this decision after a very heated debate. Sucks.

What a load of bs! I wonder if there's going to be a problem with dd's doctor now. I mean, we're there so rarely, they might not even notice, but still, I worry. I think the only reason they haven't said anything to me is that they can tell I'd be pretty argumentative and they wouldn't get anywhere with me.

well, on the bright side, this is really great news for the good, ethical, professional pediatricians out there who don't adhere to this nonsense.

they'll see an influx of patients fleeing/being kicked out of other practices and business will boom for them.

I don't get why this matters anyway... I mean, I just take my kids in to urgent care for every problem. Peds can kiss my butt.

Here, if anybody cares to leave feedback regarding this...

Another reason to support the AAFP.

(AAFP policies are more mellow in general compared to the AAP and ACOG...like, family docs tend to think routine labor induction before 42 weeks is nutty, but the ACOG thinks it's great...AAP policy says any baby who gets a first UTI needs an invasive screening for renal reful, but family docs won't usually go there until it's recurrent.)

Could you please indicate where you got this info? I've looked in my AAP journals, and don't see where there is an official statement from the AAP. AAPNews did print an article / letter in June issue from a peds office that states the docs from that office will dismiss you from their practice if you don't get all the vaccines. However, the AAP official policy is to not dismiss families.

Granted, the AAP journals are ...uh....very biased (to say the least!) in pro-vax and always print pro-vax articles, but the official policy is to not dismiss patients.

I'll look for it. I did read it on the AAP site a while back,, but it wasn't an official policy reversal.

Please recognize
that by not vaccinating you are putting your child at unnecessary
risk for life-threatening illness and disability, and even death.

ETA: It's the same AAP news thing...the AAP apparently endorses this attitude, though. Even if it conflicts with their official policy.

You know what annoys me the most about these types of statements? I want my child to get some of these diseases. They build a healthy immune system where as vaccines do not.

And if any doctor talked to me like that I would tell him where to go and fire his butt. Really calling me self-centered becuase I want what is best for MY CHILD. :

Does anyone have an AAP membership to access this article? It's on their front page:

"Immunization Alliance
Fifteen groups meet to craft
parent messages to combat
falling immunization rates"

we were booted from our ped's office when DS was 6 months for not vaxing. It was the greatest blessing-- we now have a homeopath/ family practitioner that is amazing.

Immunization Alliance
The following groups are represented on the Immunization Alliance:

American Academy of Family Physicians

American Academy of Pediatrics

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

American Medical Association

American Public Health Association

Association of State and Territorial Health Officials

Easter Seals

Every Child By Two

Immunization Action Coalition

March of Dimes Foundation

National Foundation for Infectious Diseases

National Vaccine Program

Parents of Kids with Infectious Diseases (PKIDS)

Rotary International

Voices for Vaccines

I couldn't get the article to copy. However, one of the main pediatricians was Dr. Offit, the head of Vaccine Education Center At Childrens Hosp of Philidelphia.

Interesting, because what I highlighted in red is exactly the reason I QUIT vaccinating!
