Yay! No more ads at all, thank you!
I figured out why the kitten looks so ratty in those pictures. She's finally settled in 100%, no traces of fear anymore, so I felt more comfortable sort of manipulating her instead of concentrating on making sure she feels safe.
As I was inspecting her, I discovered that she does not have super thin fur like I had thought. She has a normal amount of fur (explains why she feels
normally furry) but each hair is half black (the outer half) while the half of the hair nearest her skin is grey.
Except for her lower legs and face, which are completely black.
So in the pics, the flash combined with the fact that her fur was in disarray at that moment anyway, really illuminated the grey portion of her fur, making her look kind of mangy
ETA: Her personality is amazing. She is incredibly people-oriented, super vocal, and this funny combination of athletic and clumsy. She is no longer scared of Ulysses, and has started to try to play with him. It's pretty funny seeing this tiny kitten just a little bigger than his muzzle, standing up on the floor on hind legs batting at the dog's face.
