Shedding Exposure

I am going on vacation this weekend with my friend whose 2 mo just got vaxed yesterday. My 7 mo is not vaccinated, and they won't be sharing toys, and I won't be changing her babies diaper. Is there anything else I should do to prevent shedding?

At two months they don't get any "live" virus vaccines that shed.

Unless she got the oral rotateq?

This is waht she got; dtap, hbv, ipv combo, pneumococcol, and rotovirus vax. One was an oral dose!

Well, rotavirus is everywhere, so it's really just a matter of time before your baby catches it. But while on vacation wouldn't be the best time (although it would probably be very mild since it's the vaccine strain).

The family of the 7 mo might end up infected without symptoms (adults can carry and shed rotavirus asymptomatically)...so your friend could pass it to you, or to your baby, etc.

Honestly, I just wouldn't worry about it though.

Yes the rotavirus sheds. Avoid poop contact especially and HOPE the vax'd one doesnt come down with it ON vacation ( ok or rotavirus like symptoms)

Just make sure that there is PLENTY of hand washing..they Roto sheds through feces. Diaper changes tend to spread it around.

Mostly the most foul diarrhea in the world. Often vomiting as well.

Anything I can do for her or give her in case she does get it?

Nurse, nurse, nurse!

dehydration is the biggest danger from Roto...keep the babe hydrated and again be really careful of contamination since you don't need to be sick as well!

I would avoid changing your baby's diaper ANYWHERE close to where she changes hers. Im not a big clorox wipes believer but I think I would get some to take along. Wash your hands alot and take a big bottle of handsanitizer for when you cant get to a sink

Normal nursing + small amounts but consistant, periodic sips of pedialyte. But really, if you catch the vax strain, it would probably be so mild you might not even notice or need to do anything.

But if you're vaxing for rotavirus, you might as well know how to treat it, coz all kids are infected before age three. (although some get lucky and get really mild cases that are never diagnosed.
Dehydration is the only thing you have to worry about with rotavirus.

Here's info on at home treatment:
