Sleeping Habit of a 1 year old?

Hey Mommas! I am just wondering what the typical sleeping habits of a 1 year old? My 12 and 1/2 month old has recently started waking up two or three times a night...after having been 10 hr sleeper. We are able to get her back asleep very quickly with a few minutes of close snuggling. We have ruled out hunger and illness. DH attributes the waking to all of the developmental milestones she has been hitting during the last couple of weeks...walking, a couple of new words, a lot of gesturing (more pointing, shaking her head no, nodding her head yes, shrugging her shoulders, etc.), drinking from a regular cup really well, and the list goes on. I tend to agree with DH...but, I still worry about the LO. She is our first and are just a little unsure ...Thank you for any assistance!

Only 2-3 times a night? She's a super sleeper

I think your dh is right. 2-3 times is not unusual for that age at all, but 4.5yo still wakes that often. I wouldn't be worried, and it won't last forever - my 6.8yo only wakes once or twice most nights, and sometimes not at all.

Our LO (1 year old next week) is waking more often lately, too, and we've also been assuming it's because of all the amazing stuff she's been learning (standing, talking, you name it), plus of course the ever-present possibility of new teeth.

They go through so much at this age (my babe is 13 months) and it definitely shows in their sleep! My ds has never really been a sleeper, but it is even more pronounced now. The latest culprit for us is the one year molars that have been bothering him for a couple months now (and not a one is cut yet!).

Your dd is doing great and so are you! It's wonderful that a snuggle from you is all she needs to settle back down again. I bet your good sleeper will be back before long, once some of the huge new things aren't quite so new anymore!

2-3 wakings per night sounds like pure heaven.

I'd go with the milestones and potential teething

I have an 11mo who just started walking and she wakes up 2-3 times per night - once to eat, and 1-2 times to snuggle She's never slept through the night, but I definitely notice that around the times she starts a new milestone she'll be up more like 5-6 times per night. Anywhere in that range seems to be totally normal unfortunately

DS (2 days shy of 13 mo) did one stretch of 2.5 hrs. last night. OTher than that he was up every hour. That's pretty much the norm. A few nights this week he did three hour stretches all night long, and it was heaven!
