PP recovery question--TMI

Babe is 6 months. Ever since she was born, when I pee, after I wipe and stand up, a tiny bit more pee comes out. This never happened before she was born. I do not have any problems with leaking urine at any other times. Is this normal? Is this considered urinary incontinence? Is it something else? I am clueless about what what is going on.

Information that may be relevant--I was in labor for 4 days and was fully dilated and pushing for 24+ hours. Babe was stuck in the birth canal and I had an emergency C-section.

I don't know if this is the same - when I gave birth 6 mo ago, I couldn't hold urine. If I needed to go, I had to or else I pee on the floor. My MW said it's b/c of the hormones since I bresfeed. She also said it'll be fine in 2-4 weeks. Well, it took at least 2 months or maybe even more and I think me doing kegels contributed a lot.
I not only couldn't hold, but I would still get few drops out after I finished peeing, just like you are explaining
Do you think that could be what you have? Maybe do kegels and see if it helps. For mee it took at least 2-3 weeks of kegels.
Good luck!

I had a quick delivery - 6 hours total, 30 minutes pushing.

It could be a slight bladder prolapse (cystocele). It's not uncommon (especially after a long pushing phase or stuck babe since the bladder gets "beaten up" more than normal) but it's something that "nice women" didn't really discuss, not even with their care providers, till recently.

You might check out the thread here at mdc http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=713732 or visit The Whole Woman http://wholewoman.com/ for ideas on how to correct this naturally.

And if you do pump up the kegels please read Lose the Mummy Tummy or Bounce Back Into Shape After Baby or the Whole Woman or Beyond Kegels.... basically, kegels "done wrong" can be worse than no kegels at all. So make doubly sure you're doing them just right!

hth!

wombatclay--THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Yes, I was much too shy to mention this to my doctor and had never heard of anything like this happening to anyone ever. Who knew it was so common.

Those two links you sent me were completely enlightening. Now it all makes perfect sense. It is such a relief to have this information. I am looking forward to reading more about it in those resources and hopefully seeing some improvements soon.

PS--and thanks for the heads-up about kegels. I have never done them because doing them just feels incredibly weird and instinctively wrong to me. I had no idea that there was a wrong and bad way to do them and so I am very grateful for that information as well.

Oh good! I mean, not good that you need the info, but good that this seems to be part of the answer for you...

Kegels- it's just like any exercise... if you work a muscle the "wrong way" then you risk further injury and probably aren't going to see any good results. Almost forgot... the book The Core has a nice section on kegels and other "female support" muscles. It's a nice book with a very simply exercise routine designed not so much for "getting into shape" but more for curing aches/pains (the author is a PT).

hopefully your library or book store will have at least one of these titles!
