Hi guys, I am new to this forum, and have my first consult appt with Michigan Reproduction and IVF Center. I already have my diagnosis of blocked tubes, with 1 previous ectopic. My question is...Im so exteremly nervous about this appointment, and am not sure what to expect, can anyone give me any advice? ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks,
Jo

I think you typically just talk at the first consult. If any procedures are done it would be simple bloodwork and/or an ultrasound. They'll probably just explain the process and timing and then you'll have an official "teach" sometime where they explain everything in detail. I'd also say that you probably will have tons of questions along the way as you learn more. I've called the nurses so many times because I never seem to get them all answered at once. So, try and learn as much as you can, but recognize that this consult won't answer everything. Good luck!

Jo,

DH and I just had our first consult on 7/11. We met with our ivf nurse coordinator, therapist (we passed!!) and the ivf doctor doing the ret and et.
We had b/w,DH had a semen analysis, we had injection training, signed our consent forms. They walk you through the whole process. Every step of the way. I was super nervous but found the day to be fun and educational.
Hope this helps.

What do you mean, you passed? Do they decide whether you're sane enough, or something? Do I need to bring my homestudy? :-)

We didn't have any type of therapist, we just met with the nurse who went over some stuff, and then the RE. The RE gave his thoughts on what treatment we needed to go through based on our history, explained EVERYTHING in a LOT of detail about what happens, why it doesn't, the stats, the possibilities, the why's, how it will work, etc... then he let us call the office when we had made the decision to move ahead with IVF.

FWIW, We actually walked out of that appointment feeling as though we had FINALLY been given the most honest answers and opinions, and it took no time at all to make our decision (befoer we were even home!).

GL, I hope your journey is short and sweet, but for when it's not, we are here for you!
