Uh oh- I spoiled my grandma....

My grandma is a great knitter- she can knit beautiful things- but as are a lot of seniors- she is on a very limited budget. So she buys Red Heart and poors her heart and soul into knitting it up beautifully. Lately she has been asking if she could knit something for me- so I mailed her some cascade and a longies pattern- enough for 2 pairs. Well she called me the other day kind of crying because she finished one pair and now she has to table the other pair to knit my sister a baby blanket before her shower. Why she was crying though was because the Red Heart was hurting her hands and she had no idea why she was knitting on such horrible stuff after all that 'beautiful wool' I sent her. I told her it was because babies need easily washable beautiful handmade things- and she knew that of course. I think for Christmas I am going to get her something really wonderful- like Malabrigo or something.....

if she knits a lot of blankets you could get her a handful of the bulky merino at www.handpaintedyarn.com. It is soft and knits quick.

has she tried caron simply soft? It's available at wm, and is normally just a bit more expenseive than red heart, but much softer and easier to work with.

I second this. I use it to make baby gifts for non-crunchy friends.
