Cable issues

Okay I am clueless on this. Some form of basic cable package, through one of two local providers, I pay through my horrid HOA fees. No choice there (right?) I added internet and it came in a package with phone and a few other things like some additional cable channels.

I don't care about the cable whatsoever. BUT I do need the internet. To job hunt securely, mostly. The phone is nice since it is a landline I can make unlimited long distance from but not the end of the world if I lose it, at least not right now.

Here's my dilemma - got a letter from the lovely cable provider telling me how excited they were to "offer" me a "new promotional package" and that my current "promotional package" is expiring. I'm not sure if they are requesting my action or if they are just going to bill me for this "new promotional package" which is the same service for an additional $10 a month.

I was already feeling squirrely about this bill, which is about $70 a month now, but again, most of that is the internet service. Pushing it up $10 is making me very unhappy and I would like to tell them to stuff it, but how? With two local providers and being locked in through the HOA with one and needing the internet, what would you do? TIA for reading all this and any advice.

call them, tell them you have a found a new provider who can offer you the same service for a lower price. most of these companies have retention specialist who are there to keep you as a customer and will many times meet the competitions price
