Fetal Movement Slows Close to Labor??

Is it true that when labor is near the baby's movements will decrease? My mom claims this and I have had others agree but I personally think it could be a crock. Every day when my mom asks about the baby's movements and I tell her they are the same, she says today won't be the day. What do you ladies think?

i don't remember anything like that happening with dd. and it seems that movement is one of the biggest indicators of a healthy thriving baby, esp if you go past that silly silly EDD. but i guess everything is different for everyone.

i have never found this to be true. all 3 i have had have been very active even through labor.

I think DD's activity was normal up until delivery. With DS, his movements did slow in the few days before. But he had passed meconium, and it had been a few days as the placenta was stained. So maybe less movement is an indicator, but not necessarily a good thing. I couldn't decide if I had been concerned about movement in the few days before labor, but in hindsight I probably should have been.

My son was very active, this baby is too, although I'm not near labor I don't think.
They say they "run out of room" but these kiddo's just beat the living crapola out of me so I see foots and bums and elbows popping me from all over. Sometimes, it's borderline violent....LOL....I don't think this baby ever sleeps...

I think if my baby's movement slows too much I will panic so I am hoping s/he just keeping pushing, kicking and sticking out their little behind!

I don't really recall with my first 2, but it was certainly true for me this time. The whole day while I was contracting she was very still. I mentioned to DH that she seemed to be resting up for the big event. Toward the end she'd give me warning that I had a big one coming, as she always shifted or moved just before the ctrx came on.
