Lactivism Opportunity!!!

I am so angry!!! Victoria's Secret stopped selling nursing bras on their website. No explanation given, they simply removed them from the site. Apparently you can get them, but only by calling a 1800 number. How RUDE! What would it hurt to sell nursing bras on their website!?

I encourage each of you to write an email to them. I did. Why should nursing moms have to wear those HORRIBLE non supportive ugly bras?! I should get to feel sexy too!!!!:

Wow, I didn't know they had nursing bras! I know a lot of women who swear they are the best fit and quality, but I hate the soft porn ads and don't give them my business.

It was only a trial run to see if they would actually sell. Apparently they are going to take all the feedback they received and determine 1. if they want to continue selling them. and 2. how they can make improvements to the line.

That's what a store manager who was a trial store told me.

They won't sell them if people aren't buying them. If they were a sucess, believe me, they wouldn't take them off. If something is unprofitable and slow turning, they can't continue to carry them.

It might help if they, oh, I don't know, advertised them. I would have totally gotten one.

ugg

I just posted about this the other week. I am so steamin' mad at this company. I bought two bras from them, and they were crap, IMO. I tried returning them, and they didn't have anything else in my size. I guess that's the phasing out part. They wouldn't even give me my $ back, and said I could have a store credit. I said, for what? They don't have my size in any nursing bras. They said, "Well we have purses and clothes and stuff." EWWW, I have an IPEX from them and I think it is crap too. I'd rather give my money to some company who actually cares about nursing mamas. Wasn't there going to be a nurse in at a VS in Florida for their poor treatment of breastfeeding moms?? I mean come on, breasts are for nursing!!! I will be writing a letter for sure.

I'm not surprised they've taken the nursing bras off the website - I don't think they put enough thought into the needs of nursing mothers when designing them. They did this thing badly and it turned out unprofitable.

VS nursing bras came in the same range of sizes as their regular bras, but, as so many of us have reason to know, nursing breasts do not necessarily come in the same sizes as non-nursing breasts.

Fit is VITAL to nursing bras, both because nursing breasts are incredibly sensitive and poor support is very painful very quickly and because bad fit can cause plugged ducts and infection. VS (the entire chain) is *terrible* at fitting. They will always try to sell you a size they have, even if it's the wrong size for you. This made a lot of nursing mamas (myself included) suspicious of the product. "Sister sizes" are just not okay when a badly placed underwire (and yes, one of their nursing bras had underwires) can make you physically ill.

Finally, VS has some serious competition in this area. There are more and more lingerie websites springing up, with lower shipping costs and better return policies than VS offers. (figleaves.com!) Why should I pay $14 shipping to buy a bra from VS, and then potentially go through all kinds of trouble to return it, when better, cheaper service is available?

Just as an FYI--if you're interested in the bras from stores that were carrying them as a test item, ask at the counter. I went into the VS at Orange Park Mall (FL) today to have DD fitted and asked if they still had the nursing bras. The salesperson said that they did, but they were in the drawers back by the fitting rooms. I did buy one as a "gift" for DH but wasn't impressed with the fit, support, or lack of matching undies. I'm hoping that they improve the design and try them again.

This isn't a lactivism opportunity. This is a company that did a test run of a product and may or may not continue to produce the product.

Nursing moms are NOT their biggest clientelle, and there's a lot of competition in this area.

As for sizing, my understanding is that the "standard VS sizing" was one of its few advantages, as small-breasted women who fit well in VS sizes could get a bra that fits. Many women who nurse for a long time shrink back into smaller sizes long before weaning.

That would be me, mrs. "nearly A" even while nursing an almost 3-year-old. I miss my bust. I really hope it doesn't totally disappear whenever we wean.

However, I would not buy a bra from Victoria's Secret because of their poor service and woman-objectifying soft-porn advertising.
