My first was 5 days post dates and my second was 12 days post dates. So, boy am I surprised to have the third right on my due date!
I had a planned c-birth, after having 2 already. But, I found an OB practice who was fine with the baby picking his own due date. So, I managed to go into labor on Sunday night. We waited a while until I was sure it was labor, called my friend to come over to watch the other kids, and went on it. We arrived at the hospital about 3am and they decided I was in labor at 4cm dilated and contracting regularly. They did the prep for the c-birth and I got to the OR about 4am.
DS was born at 4:29am and it was amazing. They set a mirror up so that I could watch the birth. I saw my uterus, which wasn't as odd as I thought it might be. I saw his head, shoulders, and body being gently removed from me. MY OB was great and didn't yank or pull him quickly, but did it slowly as I asked. I got to announce that it was a boy! Then, the baby nurse brought him over and I got to touch and talk to him for a minute or so before they had to do their stuff.
The nurses thought I was the oddest patient they ever had because I wanted the IV and catheter removed at 12 hours instead of 24 hours. And, I wanted to leave the hospital as soon as I could as well. I came home on Tuesday afternoon, about 32 hours after DS was born. It is great to be home with all the kids and DH.
We're doing well and he's nursing well, too. The older kids seem to be adjusting just fine and DS (age 4) is really enjoying having a brother. DD (age 2) is a little less sure, but is doing pretty well
.
I am always amazed at how much better I feel so quickly - my feet no longer hurt, heartburn is gone, etc. Love that!
