The Hibernation Diet - Page 9

I don't know if I can keep doing this.

I only take one heaping teaspoon of raw honey (it's solid-liquid), but it's getting harder and harder to take it. Now, when I just SMELL the honey, I get nauseous! It just doesn't really feel natural eating a giant spoonful of pure sweetness. My stomach gets queasy and it takes me forever to finish the spoonful.

I really do think it is helping me sleep better. In fact, I know it is. I wake much less during the night, and today I slept til 9am!!! I usually can NOT sleep past 6 or 7am, even on weekends. I woke up feeling great and refreshed.

It's not really helping with my reflux anymore, although I have it pretty bad anyway.

I think I read some of you mix it with water to make it easier to take? How much water, and does it work the same? Thanks!

I swallow it in a big mass, like a pill, using water to help me swallow it. It really is like taking a pill that way. Those of me who know me for my liver pill passion will chuckle -- tell me to swallow anything with water, and I can do it.

I had the funny feeling night before last that it was a little too much, overkill -- just stopped feeling right. So I'm on a break from it, just to see. I'm still sleeping well. I wonder if it "primes" the melatonin pump, so to speak?

I don't think its wise to force the issue. Why not take a break from it? Its a good idea to listen to your body...

We take ours in a cup of warm water.

I'm thrilled that my daughter is taking solid deep naps for the first time since she was teeny tiny!

I've been taking 1-2 heaping TBSP of raw local honey for 9 nights now. Sleeping has always been without problem so I wasn't looking for changes in that area. I was hoping for weight loss. I can't say I've noticed any, but for the first 7 nights I had added TF ice cream to my daily intake along with more sprouted grains (usually don't have any of either one). I had also not excercised in 3 weeks due to DH being in another state for work. I'm going to stick to what I usually eat and get some works outs in a coulple times a week again before I give up. I'm encouraged that some of you have had weight loss.

I've had issues falling and staying asleep for awhile now. I had started taking some hylands stuff awhile back to try to help on nights where I just couldn't seem to dose off within a reasonable amount of time. It helped some, but some nights I was still tossing and turning.

I started trying the raw honey. Luckily I can take it straight so far without any problems. I have noticed since doing this, I am falling asleep easier and sleeping much sounder. So I'm quite thrilled with that! :

But the need to eliminate alcohol from the body means that a person will be awakened several times during the night, thus fragmenting the sleep cycle. In addition, alcohol is known to interfere with and decrease REM sleep in the first half of the night and causes a rebound of REM sleep in the second half of the night. REM rebounding causes frequent awakenings during the night leading to fragmented poor quality sleep.

Haha! I know and it was a very rare occasion for me to have more than one glass of wine. But, I do think the honey added to it, with the high sugar content. I am still eating the honey and having good results. I didn't gain my normal 'period weight' this month, so it is possible that the honey helped in that area.

Wine by itself never disrupts my sleep. Honey by itself seems to do great things for my sleep. Wine + honey = hellacious insomnia. No idea why.

I don't know what to do about the honey. I seem to have gained 5 pounds in one month, and nothing else has changed except I'm taking really good-quality supplements! Why would those make me gain weight?!? I'm also getting less vitamin D... it has been so crazy hot that I'm just not going outside...

But, it seems like maybe the honey has caused me to gain weight. And I can't do that! I need to LOSE 30-40 pounds.

I'm very confused. And tired. Not taking the honey, plus a resurgence in my dh's snoring, has meant two nights of crappy sleep.

vioburn, that is kinda fascinating, because I am realizing that I didn't either...and my period was very light and less painful compared to my usual horrible ones...I wonder if it could be the honey...thanks for mentioning that!

After reading this thread I thought I'd give the honey a shot. I actually found raw unheated unfiltered honey at the regular grocery store (fred meyer) Apitherapy brand. It is soooo yummy. So far I'm undecided.

Here's my "journal" so far

night 1: I had a really late dinner at like 11 pm, so I took the honey (1 TBSP)around 1 or 1:30 before bed and maybe my stomach was stilll too full to get the correct balance. It didn't seem to help me sleep, as I laid awake as always. I have been taking melatonin which helps but I am not taking it right now so that I can see what effects the honey has. I woke up feeling sort of groggy. The pros are that I didn't wake up nauseas or have heartburn like I normally do. I was down .4 of a pound in the morning (but I'm also watching my intake)

night 2: Had the honey 3 hours after my late dinner. Still no help on the sleep front. Woke up VERY groggy. Same help with nausea and heartburn and lost another .2 of a pound.

night 3: Had the honey about 2 hours after bedtime. Had a horrible nights sleep...Couldn't fall asleep, felt anxious, my ds woke up a ton last night so that didn't help. Woke up fairly groggy but not as bad as yesterday. No heartburn or nausea again. Down .6 of a pound! I've also been trying to eat no grains at dinner so that also may be helping with the weight loss. I've lost almost a pound and a half since I started doing the no grains at dinner and honey before bedtime.

ETA: I found a YUMMY combo too last night. I got some Nutiva coconut oil and mixed about a teaspoon of it with the honey and its like coconut honey sooooo good. I just hope that the oil doesn't throw the honey's effectiveness off for any reason because I really like this.

I've been wondering about that, too, because I started putting a bit of coconut oil in my shot glass before filling it with honey, so the honey wouldn't stick. And I noticed that the coconut oil made the honey taste even better, but wasn't sure if it would be a problem or not....I only used a small amount, but may try increasing the CO tonight.

yeah and it probably depends which CO you have...I used to have spectrum, refined and it barely had a coconutty smell/taste but this nutiva one, WOW its so strong. even if i just touched the coconut oil to my finger and got a swipe of honey after that it was very coconutty tasting. I personally love it because coconut is one of my favorite scents and tastes so it's perfect for me...the raw honey and strong coconut oil is a PERFECT late night treat for me.

My period was really really light also, and much earlier than it normally is. I'm usually every 6-8 weeks or so and this time I was 4.5 weeks! More cramps though than normal.

Still sleeping great with it. I'm almost afraid to try going without it, it works so well!

I tried taking honey last night. Don't know if it worked or not though. Will have to try it again tonight. It would be really really cool it works.

"Uxor", I love your nickname!!!

I haven't been doing the honey for quite some days now because as others suggested, it's good to take a break. I haven't been enjoying the taste of it late at night like others have said. I wish I did see it as a treat, but to me it's like medicine. And I even prefer CLO.

I haven't been sleeping as well, and have been waking up achy.

In terms of weight loss, I've lost nothing and perhaps even gained a little (which I don't need to do).

I've also been eating later at night than I like to and the idea of taking the honey on a not so empty stomach is really revolting to me.

Maybe I'll start back in a couple of days.

I give raw honey to calm the kids when they have coughs.
It really works, they did some study that its better than cough syrup.
I never thought that perhaps it helped them sleep too!

The honey is supposed to be good for your adrenals, right? The better sleep helps them recharge.

Adrenals are responsible for something like 35% of your sex hormones pre-menopause. If you're experiencing adrenal fatigue, your sex hormones can get out of whack.

Could the better quality sleep be allowing your adrenals to pump out better ratios and quantities of estrogen and progesterone, so help reduce menstrual-related symptoms? if so, COOL!

oh, and honey mixed with a little CO, a spoonful of leftover oatmeal and a lot of cocoa powder pretty much tastes like brownie batter. And cocoa powder is high in magnesium, which is supposed to be best absorbed at night... (we'll ignore the caffeine...)

I think there really may be something to this honey thing. My sleep is a little better. My AF has been really easy with less discomfort. And as for healing in the body, I've had some good news there.

Four months ago I hurt my shoulder. It popped out of joint, I think and then popped back in. Yowza. Anyway, it has irritated me since because I'm a side and stomach sleeper. During pregnancy and the first year of nursing I cannot sleep on my tummy, so I've been loving the return to it. But I sleep with my arm up and wake up with a sore shoulder. I have been telling myself I need to break the habit and try to sleep on my back.

Well since starting honey, my shoulder has felt so much better, despite my side/stomach sleeping. No pain anymore. Now, it could be coincidence I know. But it's been months and this is the only improvement since starting honey at night!
