Reduced Bin Hangout

Thread Starter
I am addicted to the reduced/last stop bins.

I found yesterday 8 packs raspberry Nutrigrain bars for $1.25. I found Quaker Simple Harvest cereal for $1. I would never, ever buy either at full price. I think the cereal was nearly $4! Gallon of milk for $1.85. There was store brand instant oatmeal boxes for .45 cents.

I buy most of my bread from the reduction rack. Usually it is good whole grain bread. I found my hairdye that is normally $6-9 for $1.15. I found an electric can opener for $5. I found silicone bakeware for $2.50. I buy almost all my fresh mushrooms MS reduced. I bought real vanilla extract and chocolate chips for 50% off. I found organic whole wheat pasta for .69 a pound box. I found organic beef pot roast for 50% off.

At IKEA, I found a shelving system that perfectly matched my dining room table reduced 45% as floor model in their reduced area. There was not a scratch or dent on the thing.

Are there are any other reduced bin hangouts here?

I always hit the Walgreens clearance end cap when I am at the store. I found Tom's of Maine toothpaste for $1.50 a tube. It's a good source for hair clips and the like.

I don't even think my grocery store has a reduced area; they just put carts out when they have things. I don't have much luck with those, although this winter I found a lot of dried chiles for a good price.

So there with you....Yesterday I had an awesome shopping trip without my DD(thank you Grandma). What was great is I went to Safeway(never go there because it's in the closest "big" town) and I seriously scored. My MIL always scores there.

What I got for $16....

2 gallons OG milk marked down $2, plus on sale at 5.90 a gallon= $3.90 a gallon(WOW!!!)

4 packs of hot italian sausages marked down to 1.99 a piece-I cleaned them out.

I'm sure there were many other great deals to be had, but I only had my little cooler and was an hour from home.

My other score of the day...Crayola Crayons 24 pack .22 a piece at Walmart:. I bought 4 packs(though now I think I should have gotten more).

I also stocked up on toilet paper at Rite Aid-and saved 2.00 a pack, and also stocked up on beer(it's a little embarrassing but Rite Aid has the best prices for beer and wine).

It was a great day, good scores and a good "mama break".

I ALWAYS check the closeout area, what is even better is matching coupons to closeouts. I have been yogurt free for dh that way. I have been getting whatever meat is on closeout to supplement what we have in the freezer and you never know what you will find, last week I found the All HE for $2.57, I bought all they had it is hard to get good deals on the HE detergent.

I love my local grocers reduced bins!! 2 weeks ago they had cans and cans of organic tomatoes in there for 25 cents each. I dragged most of'em home with me.

I'm guilty I've been able to get a ton of stuff this way, though not as much at the grocery stores here as I did in WI.

I always check out the clearance areas and find a score every now and then.

My mom used to call the grocery store clearance rack the "slightly chewed" bin!

I go to target just for their clearance stuff

I look at the clearance section all the time. One grocery store here really clears out good stuff now and then. I got a good microfibre throw that my kids use on the carpet for the boundaries of their boat or their plane or their car, etc, and that I wanted to use as a cover up when reading for only $0.24! I didn't think that was the real price, then the cashier said I was actually a little late since the lady before me got half a dozen nice big wooden chopping boards for that price! Over time, I have also got a nice set of kitchen knives there for $2.94, a ballet outfit for my dtr for $0.94, a cashmere sweater for myself and my sister for $9.44 each, Brita filters 3 for $4.94 (we must've bought more than 20 packs!), face cleaners (various brands) for less than half of what other places charge, tea tree oil for cheap, big Toblerone bars for $2.94, some Crayola marker sets for $0.24, etc. etc. Those are the best deals I remember, but I love the clearance section of my grocery store!

For groceries, I love looking at their very ripe fruit, esp in the summer. We put whatever we get in our smoothie maker and it always turns out great.

Our local grocery store has a reduced area and I look every time I am in the store. 95% of the time I find nothing that we can use, but once in awhile I score big. Sometimes a box of baggies will be opened and have one missing so they discount it. Last time I got a 24 pack of TP for $3.00 because the package was smooshed a little. Like I care what my TP looks like.

I thought everyone did this! I am another person that goes to target just for clearance. I also go to a certain grocery store in my town just for the reduced produce and dairy selections.

Oh and I love the scratch and dent store that's a few towns over. Whenever I'm near it, I go!

A lot of the places here don't do that anymore or they don't really reduce for signifigant savings like they used to. I used to totally rely on them for produce but have to pay full (well, sale) price now :. There is a scratch and dent store about 45 minutes away that it used to be worth it to drive to, now they charge more than the grocery stores. I just have not been having any luck with it lately

I stalk the Manager's Special produce sections, especially at Stop-n-Shop. (supermarket chain) All their pre-packaged organic produce is dated, so they have to mark down the stuff that's got its date coming up that week on Sundays. I regularly get bags of organic salad mix & baby spinach for $.60.

I was there yesterday and from the reduced display on their shelves got 2 jars of cashew butter for $1.87 (originally 7.49) and a mess of Oregon Chai mixes and teas (Traditional Medicinals and Numi) for $1.12-$1.32. Since these are treats for my husband and I, it took a bit of the guilt off...and I get to return to work next week after maternity leave with some goodies to stash in my desk for my days in the office.

But yeah, reduced sections are great and I frequently buy off season/discontinued stuff and clear the place out when i find something great. A good score is a bit of a thrill for me.

Yep, me too for sure! I pretty well only buy meat when it's marked down 50% off and freeze it. I always check the bakery and produce racks too for anything I can freeze or use right away. My last big score was 2 litres of organic milk and 12 antibiotic/hormone free, vegetarian fed chicken drumsticks for $7

Make sure you use your coupons on the closeouts!!

Target rocks with their clearance! I was there a couple of months ago and stocked up big time on salsa, apple sauce and stove top stuffing It was awesome only spending like $25 on a cart load of that stuff. People in line behind me thought I was nuts, I'm sure. Hey, I have 4 kids and you can't go wrong with a boatload of apple sauce! :
