gonadotropin and recombinant FSH therapies

this is what my doc has recommended...instead of clomid or another way of inducing ovulation...

i have a mood disorder and the doc thinks that the more common meds would interfere to much with my emotional stability..

i am hesitant about giving myself shots, the cost of the thing (although my insurance covers all but $150 per cycle~is that good? i don't know it includes some progesterone cream too), am scared about the risk of multiples (1 in 3), and just generally hesitant about ovulation stimulation...and the risks involved...

i am wondering if anyone has had this before (I think i am definitely asking in the right place) and what your experience was like.. ...

i will not need an IUI or IVF (yet) but i am pretty sure it's the same meds used to prepare for them...

any info/support would be much appreciated...

I'm sorry, I don't have any experience here, but big to you!

I suffer from depression and I tried Clomid. I don't know how that compares to "mood disorders" but I took Clomid and it was ok. I was worried I'd be a crazy lady but I wasn't really. Clomid didn't work for me though.

I am doing IVF now and I was worried that the Lupron would give me mood swings and it hasn't. That is one of the side effects. I figured I'd be prone to it since I am prone to depression. I can relate to your concerns but luckily I was ok with all the medications I took.

As for insurance covering $150 of the medications I am not sure how good that is. I guess it depends on your dosage and what the Dr. puts you on. Injectable meds tend to be pricey, but any little bit that insurance will cover helps!

Are you going to try these meds and used timed intercourse? As long as your partner has a good sperm count that is probably where they will start you off.

Femara is another drug that is a pill that can be used to induce ovulation and everyone I know who took it said it had less side effects than Clomid. I tried it to but again, it didn't work for me. Don't be scared of the injections. I am very needle phobic and I have been able to get through them so far. I have about 10 more days or so left of shots 2x a day! If I can do it you can, too! Good luck.

i suffer from bipolar disorder...the doc didn't want to chance it with clomid..

the insurance covers everything except $150...that's what i'd have to pay..i should've asked the pharmacy what the original price was....curious...

i'd be interested to hear anything on this topic...

Oh they pay everything except 150? That's awesome then! : How many cycles will they pay for? That is another question you may want to find the answer to.

I'd also ask the doc about Femara.

Yeah, $150 is awesome. Most of the recombinant FSh drugs run into the thousands per cycle.

well, that's just the meds ...the won't pay the $1100 for monitoring per cycle...

We used gonal-f this last cycle and I had zero side effects with it. Clomid did make me pretty emotional. If you express your concerns with them about not wanting too much of a risk of multiples they can keep your dose low and somewhat control that. I think 1 in 3 is a little high though on your odds. I've been told 1 in 5 chance of twins and that's once you are pregnant. Chance of actually having twins is much lower because your chance of getting pregnant on any given cycle is lower. But yea...150 is great! For our round it was 1400 without insurance for my dosage.
