Kombucha tea and nursing

I bought some kombucha and green tea tonight, and after I got home, I read on the box that it isn't to be used by pregnant or nursing mothers. I still nurse my 18mo dd.......should I not try kombucha? I was so excited!

It has a small amount of alcohol in it (although I feel like my homemade stuff doesn't) and it is a detoxer which could go into your milk. I'm sure the effect depends on what your toxic load is, but personally I'm feeling a huge impact from it. I can only have about a half cup a day without getting major detox symptoms. Personally, I would wait till your done nursing.

I started drinking kombucha when my son was 7 mo. I started with 4 oz. a day and slowly worked my way up to drinking a quart a day. I was careful to watch for detox symptoms but I never seemed to have any. I do think that if you want to do it, you should proceed with caution but it can be done. Whether or not it works out just depends on the individual. FWIW, I personally decide not to wait until I wasn't nursing because I suspect I will be pregnant again before that happens.

this is my first experience with kombucha.......it's a tea bag......i'm not sure what other forms kombucha comes in, but will it make any difference that it's diluted in water?

I started using KT a few months ago, just before dd turned two. She still nurses very frequently (every 2-3 hours day AND night), so it isn't as if she only gets a little bit of bm. We have major allergy issues and I have been eating super healthy (tf, lots of fermented veggies, etc.) for more than a year and a half, so maybe that made a difference. I didn't have any detox symptoms that I could tell and I couldn't see it making a difference in her, not even in her normal symptoms. As a matter of fact, her eczema started to improve quite a bit after I intro'd KT. She takes sips of mine every now and then. I know some mothers wouldn't give their little ones any at all, but I decided to trust her body. She only wants little bits when she has it and some days doesn't want any at all. We make it pretty sour, so it isn't as if she would go after it for the sweetness.
We actually just started some new probiotics and she seems to have huge reactions to that. And that after having done probiotics for a year and a half.

CrunchyFarmGirl, I would be interested in what your detox symptoms were.

Severe headache, dizziness, really cloudy thinking, extreme fatigue and sort of explosive without reason.
