I think what upsets me most is that my dad listens to this guy (or used to, I don't know if he does anymore). If not for that fact, I might just think, "Oh, well, no one really listens to this guy anyhow, so it's no big deal," but I know he has fans. I know that he also has rabid fans who take everything he says as truth, and some of those people might have autistic relatives. Those relatives and the parents of said relatives (if they are children) will get a lot of flack, and that's not fair. I just don't think it's fair to insult people who are just living their lives and aren't really doing anything to insult Michael Savage. I can *kind of* understand why he would insult homosexuals and liberals: he sees them as threatening to him and to his values. That doesn't mean that I condone what he does, but I can see his warped reason for doing it. But autistic children? How are they threatening him at all? It just seems like a very unnecessary detour from who he usually insults and it was totally uncalled for, even for him.
ETA: I realized that the people who would say these things are in a very small but vocal minority and they probably would be saying these things without knowing Savage's views on them (but of course now they'll "know" they were right...) so I'm not *as* upset about it, but I'm still kind of mad. Less likely to do something about it, though, because no, he wouldn't listen to me and have a change of heart because he's a mean, bitter person whose views are rooted in the abuse he got from his father, most likely. It's sad, it's inexcusable, but I don't think there's much I can do to change it, and only a small minority of people will agree with him anyhow.
