I survived MIL

I survived MIL. Here's what I did. As most of you know, I am still latching my LO on, even though we are dealing with a myriad of physical issues that keep him from really truly successfully breastfeeding. I know he is getting some breastmilk between him being actually at the breast and me pumping, but I am sure that most of his nutrition comes from formula.

That being said, I typically use an organic formula and not a real popular name brand, if you kwim....

But while we were at the beach with the in laws (sharing a hotel suite to make it a real fun trip), I bought some ready-to-feed bottles of another brand. These are the type you just unscrew the lid and pop on any standard nip & ring.

So I stashed those in my 'personal' bag and whenever I needed to feed him, I just excused myself to another room so for all MIL knew, I was nursing and I WAS NURSING, I just followed up each nursing session with a bottle. He didn't seem to be bothered by the formula switch for just one weekend (well, a long 4-day weekend) and MIL didn't give me any grief over feeding him.

A few times she mentioned feeding him and I told her we were still nursing so she didn't say anything. And one time he was napping and she was talking a little loud and I said, "if you wake up my baby, you better be lactating." She laughed at that actually. So all in all, the weekend went well.

Good for you! And even better for your little babe, that his mama is taking pains to meet his needs!

(I love to hear of people asserting their boundaries w/ relatives...it's so inspiring to me!)

Glad it was all for the best!
And if you were in a room by yourself, she was none-the-wiser!
YAY!

Nice to hear you found a helpful way of dealing with it.

I tell people that too, if they wake up the baby they get to nurse her back to sleep! LOL

So glad it went well!!

And in the end, who knows - maybe this weekend will be such that if she runs into someone else who's having some of the troubles you've had, she'll tell them, "You know, my DIL's baby had that problem too and she's managed to keep nursing, have you worked with [insert LC, LLL, etc.]?"

One can hope, anyway.

I am glad it went well! I was wondering how you guys were since the bfing strike awhile ago. I am glad to hear the strike is over!!! How did you pump around your MIL... Did you pump one side while bfing on the other? I do that at night to save time.

I'm a low supply mom and have to supplement with Lact-Aids. I nurse any and everywhere - except around dh's family. Then I excuse myself and go nurse in another room. It's an internal struggle for me, but not giving them something to grasp onto and give crap is much easier.
