LLL Leaders - are all shown on their site or no?

Or just a select few? Can someone be an LLL Leader and not show up on the site for a certain reason (and what reason would that be)?

Someone said they are an LLL Leader but I can't locate them on the web site, so it's making me wonder if it's true or not.

Thanks.

She could still be a Leader without being on a website. Not every group puts up a web site. Also, some Leaders don't have a group, but still take phone calls. So you wouldn't necessarily find them on the web.

Hmm, okay, thanks. This is the specific part of their site I was speaking of: http://www.llli.org/Web/Oregon.html and in the city she is located, she is not listed. Not all list site address but all list phone numbers from what I've seen.

Thank you again.

Interesting. You could mention to her that she wasn't on the site and ask why she wasn't included. Just to give her the benefit of the doubt, if she is a new Leader they may not have updated the site yet to include her. Or maybe the way they divide up the group work she leads more meetings but isn't on the site so she doesn't have to take as many calls. Or maybe she is NGA which stands for no group affiliation. There are Leaders in my area who are NGA and do not work with a group and they are not listed on any local site. I've seen many NGA Leaders who do not do group work anymore but are very active in the NJ Area LLL organization. Just a few thoughts.

I'd hate to jump to the conclusion that someone is misrepresenting themself as a Leader. If you really feel that is the case, you could call a local Leader and mention the situation to her. She would probably know this person's status, or could find out if she is a Leader.

Thanks! I'll probably figure it out one way or the other over the next few days. I was talking to her about something else entirely and she happened to mention she was an LLL Leader. I was checking her out as best as I could and didn't find a listing and started wondering.

Did you try googling her name? There's lots of reasons she may not show up on that page. They don't even have a page for every state so I would not be surprised if they are not complete. Not to mention that a lot of the work at LLL is done by volunteers so things may well be a little out of date. It's a big organization and it's hard to run something so big with mostly volunteers. I would give her the benefit of the doubt unless you find some proof that she's not a Leader.

Click on the "la leche league of oregon" link. There's a "webmaster" email there -- maybe if you contact someone at that address they can confirm or refer you to someone else who can confirm that this person is or isn't a leader.

It is also not all that unusual for people to say they are LLL Leaders when they are not. If there is an Area listmaster, that is a good suggestion for confirming whether someone is currently a Leader.

Perhaps the person in question is a LLL Leader in a different area.

That's sad. And frustrating.

There are 6 current leaders in my Group. Only 4 of them are listed on the website. One of them has been a Leader for a long time and is trying to take less phone calls. The other is a new Leader and not listed yet. I also know at least one former Leader from our group that is now an LC in the area.

It is correct that not all LLL Leaders are listed on the web site. This could be for several reasons such as,

- new leader not yet listed
- leader who does not want to or is unable to take phone calls currently

Some leaders have taken phone calls in the past but may not any longer due to volunteering in other areas within LLL. It is a very large organization and there are many roles to fill, including administrative and what not. So some leaders fill the administrative roles or work as help and support for other leaders, such as the ones that are actively involved in a group or taking phone calls.

So yes, you can most certainly be an LLL Leader without being listed on the website. Any other LLL Leader could inform you of whether or not the woman you spoke with was legit. Leaders have access to a leader only database with a list of all current leaders in their state and their information (at least here in Florida). That list is just not available to the public.

Here you can choose whether to be listed on the website, I think. It might be the same there.
