Need advice for my 10 yo and night time accidents

Last night my ds had an accident in bed. This has happened in the past once about 2 months ago at my Mom's.
This morning he got up, woke up dh and got in the shower.
He felt so bad, and I told him it was ok, that everyone has had an accident. He said he was dreaming he was up going pee, and just went.
Do you think I need to make an appt for him or is this just one of those things that does happen?

Also I scrubbed my matress, and sprayed it with an enzyme cleaner, any other tricks out there?
TIA

For the mattress - I find sprinkling it liberally with baking soda draws the dampness & smell out. Let it sit until dry & then vacuum.

Lifeguard, thank you. I think I got it all out. Fingers crossed.

I just hope that this is normal, and not becomming something we have to worry about.

I have almost done that. LOL I was also a bed wetter until 10ish. Are these accidents new?

If it's only happening once every 2 months or so, I doubt it's an indication of any serious problem. He might have had too much liquid last night before bed, or stayed up too late, or eaten something that didn't QUITE agree with him- something that made his bladder need to empty more often, or made him sleep more deeply (so he couldn't get up before peeing.) Too many candies/junk foods with artificial colors can have that effect on some people.

He's obviously embarrassed about it and wants to prevent it from happening again, so I'd get his input on trying to identify and avoid bedwetting triggers.

Yes, the accidents are new. When we were potty training I can only remember 1 or 2 accidents, and nothing since then.

I can't think of any junk food or candy that he had that day.
But he has been staying up later then usual.

We are going to watch his liquid intake at night, and wake him up to go potty when we go to bed.

Thanks guys!!!

MeadowMom - my ds is 8.5 and we are working on the bed-wetting issue, which doesn't sound like you are having, but here are my 2 cents: I wouldn't be too concerned. This sounds like a simple accident. He may have just been in a deeper sleep than usual. For us, this is a hereditary issue, DH and FIL both had this same issue, and it is slowly but surely getting better. We have to limit liquid intake after dinner and make sure he goes right before bed, and we also wake him up before WE go to bed to go, and now it is down to once or twice a week - it used to be every night. DS is a VERY deep sleeper and this has been the most difficult part of getting him to stop - he just doesn't wake up. My point is...even with all this, the pediatrician is not overly concerned YET about an underlying issue. He believes ds will simply outgrow it in time, as his dad and grandpa did. So I don't think an accident a few times is too much cause for concern. I can fully understand the embarrassment...my ds doesn't even like talking to the doctor about it.

I've known a bunch of kids that outgrew their night time accidents when they hit puberty. It might be worth purchasing 2 waterproof mattress pad/covers-one in the wash and one on the bed to save the mattress and the extra work of baking soda and vaccuming. They have fabric ones so you don't have that nasty plastic rustling noise.
Good luck and don't worry. This too shall pass

ITA! Both my exH and I wet the bed until we were about 11-12 years old and gradually outgrew it. Our DS has had similar issues- not every night, but probably 1-2 times a month now. It used to be a lot more frequent. You need a couple of waterproof mattress pads so that you can change his bedding right away when it happens and just wait it out and see how it goes. I certainly wouldn't think at his age that this is a big deal to have 2 accidents spaced out like that.
