Tea Set

I'm already starting the Christmas pre-shopping and I'm looking for ideas for a good tea set for my five year old. Does anyone have any ideas? What are your and your child's favourite set? I'd prefer to have at least four settings.

Thanks!

We have this one from green toys and we really like it. It's nice and solid and the pieces are a nice size for little hands without being too tiny.

When dd is a little older (maybe about 5) I plan to shop garage/estate sales and get real china for a tea set. Really fancy, frilly stuff. She is really into 'real' now, and would much rather use our china set than her 'toy' set. Plus, buying a few pieces here and there would be pretty inexpensive.

We have the green toys one too- love it! You can actually use it for hot/cold beverages too- I called the company and asked.

That's really sweet. We have a Flower Fairies set from Magic Cabin. I'm not sure if they still carry it. Anything sturdy enough and safe to really use is great.

We have this one too and my DD loves it. It's very sturdy. I'd like to get her a real china one also but right now that's not an option b/c we have tiny guys in the house too and they just get broken. Maybe when she's 7 or 8 we'll do the china.

What size is this?

All the toy sets we've found are so tiny. I think that ds would actually like to drink the tea. Montessori websites like forsmallhands.com have nice ceramic pitchers and cups. At 5 I'd look to a real set like maybe one like with little cups like in a Chinese restaurant. I have little glass cups from a thrift store that are meant to be part of a punch bowl set. They are the perfect size for tea parties and are usually easy to find at thrift stores.

I like the one they have on the Lehman's website.

I have an old, small, Holly Hobby porcelain set I received as a child. Dd will be 5 soon, so I thought I'd pass it on to her.

That Green Set is pretty cool...

I have the ikea set in my house for my niece. It's consistently her favorite thing to do. She also has a plastic disney princess one at home. I like the tin one mentioned above, that's pretty neat.

I also like the idea of buying pieces here and there, though you might run into problems when buying the actual pot. Our "fine china" we got for $4 for an 8 seat set at a flea market. We use it all the time, no worries about chips or anything. The cups are dainty, a few came with broken handles, so I use them for elegant water cups when I paint. Hee.

i have a small ceramic pot that was my moms (a single serving pot that comes and fits over a tea cup)... and a cute polka dot cappuccino set.... also a couple small tea cups and saucers from a yard sale.

DH's stepmom got DD1 a real tea set from an estate sale and she *loves* it. we keep it up in a special cabinet and only take it out to play and then put it right back. it's the only one of her 'toys' that she is meticulously careful about.

that said, i've been thinking of also getting her the tin tea set that Magic Cabin carries. that way she could have a more rough and tumble 'every day' set that i wouldn't mind if she took out side or let the baby play with.

Thanks. I didn't even think of thrift stores or estate sales so I may look into that. How big is the green tea set?

Sorry, no advice, I just had to tell you that you just gave me an anxiety attack by mentioning Christmas shopping. :

Good on you for tackling it this early -- you'll be so stress-free in December!

Probably not what you're looking for, but Schylling had a Curious George tin tea set last year that we got for my son. He loves to have tea parties, and wanted his own set. Everything else was either very girlie (like his sisters), or plastic. He has tea parties with his stuffed animals-very cute

We actually got a heavy-duty ceramic one at Toys R Us a couple of years ago for dd1 - it was pretty inexpensive, and all we could find at the time other than cheap plastic - our local good, small box toy store wasn't carrying them yet. A couple of the plates broke when she dropped them on the bathroom floor, but we glued them, and they are fine. And she is much more careful now.

I just bought this one as a gift for ds's friend. I searched many toy stores and this one was nice because it had big cups. So many children's tea sets have tiny cups that you couldn't really use. I noticed this one has an 8ounce pot. I think the cups might be 1/2 cup? I got it from a toy store, not this site:

I noticed the brand makes two similar sets, but the "deluxe" has bigger cups!

I love the green toys set! I went and measured for you. The plates are 4 inches across. The cups are 2 inches tall. The tea pot is about 7 inches from spout to handle.

Here's a pic of DD playing with it. She is almost 2yo.

Oh, for ULTRA MEGA cuteness, Haba makes these little wooden teabags with strings! You can kinda see one in the cup in this pic.
