Here's a pic of DD playing with it. She is almost 2yo.

Oh, for ULTRA MEGA cuteness, Haba makes these little wooden teabags with strings! You can kinda see one in the cup in this pic.
It is really cute, especially in that picture! Is it plastic? The website just says it is environmentally friendly, but I didn't see that it said what it is made of.

It's made from recycled milk jugs.

This is on our (mental) Christmas list, too.

Three years ago we were at a friend's house playing. Someone had given her three-year old daughter a beautiful hat box lovingly stocked w/ tea cups, a creamer & sugar dish, and little demi spoons. I thought that it was fantastic, but b/c it was thrifted, it was totally unappreciated.

I think that you can really play up thrifted finds...a hat box or a basket, and add some gloves/tea hat. Then it's unlike anyone else's.

Or, a restaurant supply store is another option...

Just my (humble) opinion.

we don't do many christmas gifts each year because we don't want to focus on gift giving.. so i tend to put great thought into the kids gifts. dd (almost four) is getting a tea set this year too. i wanted to get one that is really special (keepsake special), has a "wow, the elves really made this for me?" look and feel and is safe to drink from - dd doesn't get the whole pretend to drink tea thing (just doesn't interest her), so wooden and plastic tea sets with wooden and plastic accessories are near useless for us. she looooves pouring and drinking real aniseed tea from an adult tea cup and can do it all day long. she loves "real" tea parties. we are going with one of ruetters porcelain sets (they are lead free).

either this:

or a lovely fairy one:

the hard part is choosing the design. good luck in your search!

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have been looking around at garage sales and thrift stores as we love thrift around here. I also like the other ideas. Thanks again!
