Baby Sarah is here! Here is her story:
After 2 weeks of pre-labor CX and several nights of 3 hours of "I think this is it" labor finally started getting regular. I nursed my almost two year old to sleep about 10 p.m. on Wed., July 9, and my CX started coming regularly every 15 minutes.
I tried to go to bed, but couldn't. So I got up and moved to the living room with my birth ball, pillows, etc. It was very nice....everyone was asleep and I labored alone for several hours in peace and quiet. About 2:30 hubby got up to check on me, and went back to bed. About 3:30, I told him I needed him to stay up! I couldn't do CX alone any more. But....they were still only 12 min. apart. They were very intense, though. He did counter pressure, etc. and that helped me to stay on top of them, which I was quickly having trouble doing. I was doing pretty good using my birth ball, moaning, rocking, etc. But I do remember thinking, "Why do these hurt this bad if they are still this far apart?!!!" I tried to check myself, but felt something bulging between what felt like a couple of centimeters hole....I didn't want to break my water, so I didn't check again. I didn't think I was that far along, though. Three at most.
DH thought we should call my parents, but my CX were still 10-13 min. apart. I told him when they got under 10 min. I would. So about 4 ish, we called them and they drove the 20 min. to us. CX were 9 min. apart when they arrived but VERY intense. My Mom took one look at me and said, "You better get out of here!" I kept saying that my CX were only 9 min. apart and would probably slow down on the way to the hospital........but during the 30 min. drive, my CX started coming fast and furious and I started feeling pressure........
When we got to the hospital, I couldn't walk. I managed to get in a wheelchair and get upstairs. They put me in a triage room (to make sure I was really in labor...hee hee). The nurse gave me a gown and sent us to the bathroom to change. I had 3 CX on the way there. I sat down on the toilet and my water broke. Then I needed to push. Hubby ran to find someone. We made it to the bed and I knew baby was coming.
Then it was funny. The nurses were running around looking for their "stuff" and a doctor. DH said he just watched them in total calm. He said he would catch the baby if no one else would! LOL. The nurse told me with absolute seriousness if I felt like pushing I should blow through it. I shot her a "Yeah, right!" look and just did my own thing.
So........a minute later I got a big pushing CX and started pushing. Her head was out a few pushes later. Some Dr. did manage to show up about then and said the cord was around her neck so I should push again right away--which I did--and the rest of her was born.
She was beautiful, but a tiny bit blue. She still got 8 and 9 apgars and pinked up just fine.
Then, I guess the nurses realized all the stuff they had to do since the baby was born so fast (15 minutes from the time we parked until she was born) and after the placenta was out they left us there in the triage room. We were there for about an hour bonding (among all the supply shelves) when they finally came back to help me clean up, check my uterus and get us an actual room.
All in all, it was a pretty good way to do it. I labored all at home and made it just in time to the hospital. Although, I would not recommend transition in a moving car!
Baby Sarah is nursing like a champ and doing great! Brothers and sisters are loving on her constantly and almost 2 year old Olivia is letting Daddy put her to sleep now, but it nursing along with Sarah during the day--which is very cute.
Happy baby thoughts to all of those who have their babies and labor vibes to those July Mamas still waiting.........

:

I have had five out of six of my births at this particular hospital so I figure I'm doing what I can to raise natural birth awareness!
