ALCAT testing logistics question

Did people who did this do it through a doctor? Do you just have to have a dr. name on it? Or do they have to sign off on it? My ND will rx it but she appears to charge $50 more than if I just order the kit of the website myself. Plus, I'm sure the results will go to her which will slow things down. She's turning out to be not very good on follow through.

What dx code did you use to try and get insurance to cover it? Will they bill insurance directly? Or do you have to pay upfront regardless?

I did it on my own. But our pediatrician did write a prescription for it, when I asked him to, to increase the likelihood of insurance covering it. I paid for it by credit card, then I sent the invoice and the prescription to insurance (Blue Cross). I haven't heard back yet. The ped's office drew the blood for my DS (and charged like $75 for it), they tried to draw the blood for DD, but her veins were too small, so we went to a lab (I haven't received that bill yet). The results came right to me (along with a rotation diet and a booklet about what to do next). I would call ALCAT and ask them your questions. They seemed to know alot about different insurances in different states and everything.

Thanks for the info. I plan to call them tomorrow. I have asked the ped. for a rx but haven't gotten an answer. I also asked if they could draw the blood. I think I'll try to do this sans ND since she's being kind of lame.

yep, they were awesome. i called before we went and asked. they were really patient and took a lot of time with lo. they let my mom hold her and i helped to gently hold her little arm. it could not have gone better. 2 phlebotomists worked to find her little veins.
