Books on developmental stages of kids???

I am in dire need of some educational books on what is developmentally appropriate behavior for my kids. They are almost 9,6 and 4. I am so incredibly stressed out trying to discipline them. I feel like I expect too much from them. I am consonantly loosing my cool with them. They are very independent and wicked smart so I think I expect more from them than I should. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is a good one:

I liked The Yale Study Center Guide To Child Development
This looks interesting: Ages & Stages

If you have a university nearby, you might see what they use for their child development courses. Often you can get a copy of that (or one edition older). There is the series Your One-Year-Old, Your Two-Year-Old, etc. by Bates and Ilg, but they are very outdated.

I am educated on 0-3 year olds ( I have my degree in early childhood development) but after 3 I am lost. It really stinks
Thank you for the suggestions I am looking them up now.
