That name kind of reminds me of Naaman....

You know actually, I think Gomorrah would be a pretty name...

There's always the New Testament (if you're not Jewish... wasn't sure)...

Matthew, Peter, Paul, Andrew, Simon, Judas, John, James, Philip, Bartholomew, Nathanael, Mark, Luke, Stephen, Timothy...

Those are all Biblical names too.

Here is the stuff on Azriel (or Azrael... The name comes from the hebrew, so the spelling is based on a transliteration- the sounds of the word- and therefore do not always have a single spelling, so they are really the same...): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azrael

It is beautiful (the sound of the name), and death itself is not bad. In the Islamic tradition, he seems to have more reverence, but in Jewish tradition there is an element of evil. However, people generally shy away from naming babies things that have to do with death (or evil) . But I did meet a kid whose name was Lucifer (yeah, I know "light" and everything, but come on...! Who doesn't link that name with the Devil?). I think you'd get the same looks with "Gomorrah"... The next word to pop into their mind would be "Sodom".

Yeah, I don't think I'd go with Azriel....or Gomorrah. I just think they are pretty. It was very interesting reading about that on wik, though...

No, I'm not Jewish or anything, I've considered the apostle names as well..Nathanael hung in the are for a while, as well as Luke...the rest are just so used. Except Bartholomew, that is...and we just can't wrap our heads around that one.

I was telling dh this morning, I thought Gabriel and Genesis just felt so strong and beautiful and deep. And I dunno, having a hard time finding ones that are equally as strong, deep, and beautiful as those are...I also want him to stop acting weird and start considering Genesis for a boy....

Thanks for all these suggestions by the way!! I feel like now we actually have something to work with...we were walking around totally blank...I'll let you guys know when we come up with something and I'll post here what it is!

Gabriel is on my list too. I do know far more girls named Genesis than boys, just something to keep in mind, I don't think you can't use it for a boy but if its important to you to have a name that can't be confused on gender than you should know that. (I think its the influence of the girl named Genesis on the real world show several seasons ago)

Genesis Tobias sounds really good to me. Maybe Genesis Tobias Emmmanuel?

One of my sisters likes very, very old and very, very Biblical names. She sent a list that inclided Hezakiah, Ismael, and a ton of other ancient names. The ones that I thought sucked the least (not a big fan of archaic-sounding names) were Ezra and Josiah. I wound up with a nephew named Jesiah. Other names in our family are Daniel (my #1 son) Bruce, William (who is one of many, many Williams in DH's family) Jared, Elaina, Isabel (pronounced Eeesabel) and Malcolm (my #2 son on the way)
Name-picking is rough! Everyone has thier oppinion. This one's gonna be Malcolm David. Malcolm because I like the name, and David so my grandma will shut up and leave me alone. David was my father's name, and even tho I'm not a fan of naming children after family members I'm also not a fan of being pestered every single day for 6 months.

He kept harping on it over and over, wanting that name. BUT, we're having a girl so it kinda didn't matter anymore.

Now after months of having settled on my girl's name, I look at the name Jericho a little different and think that it would have been a great boy's name.
I knew a girl named Jericho. I think it had something to do with being concieved on Jericho Beach in Vancouver.

Despite it's 'evil' connotations, Azriel is a very common name in Orthodox Judaism. The name means "God Helps" and despite there being the Angel Azrael... it's never mentioned in the Old Testament. (Unfortunately I can't find a source in Hebrew so I can see if there's a difference in spelling).

If you'd prefer a more benign variation of the name, there's Azariah.

My son is Netanel (Nathaniel). If this next one is a boy, top of our list is Elchanan/Chananel/Chanan.

Other Biblical names... Boaz (the story of Ruth), Elkanah (Samuel the Prophet's father), Hagai, Jeremiah, Adriel (Saul's son-in-law)...

My cousin just named his son Canaan Isaiah. I've never thought of Canaan as a name before and I think it's interesting.

What about Genesis for a boy? (maybe someone already suggested that)

Jedediah, Abel... I'm at a loss right now.

There are searches on baby websites for Biblical names... there are also baby name books with Biblical names lists. Good luck!

When I was pregnant this guy at the mall suggested Emmaus (as in the road to). I thought that was very unique and actually kinda liked it! I've seen a lot of names on here that I think are great. Someone has suggested Elijah, right?

I like Genesis for a boy too. Why are you picking biblical names? (religion or the totally cool factor? )

The Book of Mormon has some good ones too! (if you're picking biblical names based on coolness)

Amalickiah, Moroni, Nephi, Lemuel. I think Lemuel is in Proverbs too.

OK!!!!!!

Alright.

Here goes. My husband says this sets it: (Please don't laugh if you think it's stupid...I'm not telling no one else until he gets here...)

Ok.

Israel Abijah Leviticus

That is it.

Right there. I have to say it over and over again. That's my kid's name. OmG. Wow.

(We liked the thought of having a kid named Gabriel Elijah and another one named Israel Abijah. We just liked that, so we had set on Abijah while we were out and about today.)

But yes. Israel Abijah Leviticus. That's it.

For my husband, it was somewhat of a religious thing, for me I just tended to like biblical names.
