I only have $300 for groceries - Page 3

I was going to suggest, if you buy your bread rather than baking it yourself, then you could shop at the day-old-bread stores. We have at least three in my area of town.

Bread is SO inexpensive--even whole wheat, etc--it's almost silly to buy it from the regular store, but I still do because I forget about the other stores until I've gone grocery shopping and am driving past one on my way home.

Oh, and Big Lots--for things like breakfast cereal and canned goods.

And if you have a membership at any of the "big box" stores, you can grab a wholesale-sized box of oats, rice, pancake mix, eggs, etc...

My budget for food looks a lot like the OPs this month... but I went to the farm today to stock up on produce for the next 2 weeks (I will freeze what I can).

Check out http://www.pickyourown.org, there are even organic farms. Picking the produce myself helped me to save money because there were no employees that had to be paid for the labor of picking the food.

Also, I just helped my aunt to find a deep freezer on http://www.freecycle.org; she actually requested one, and got it. I am trying to get food planning tips from this aunt, because she has 10 kids and she somehow makes it work (she has a much larger food budget, but when thinking about the money/food/kid ratio, it is still pretty tight).

HTH, and I will be subbing to learn from other's suggestions.
