Guess what I did

Gave dd some dairy <gulp>I decided about 4 days ago to trial her.

My other dd was eating some stonyfield yogurt which is corn-free, and dd was interested in it so I let her have some. Then, I decided that I might as well make a trial of it. She's never eaten dairy products directly, so all of these textures are new to her. Anyway, today is day 4 and she hasn't reacted at all. She's had yogurt, butter, some cheese, a little organic milk in her cereal, and milk cooked in some waffles. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I won't call this a successful trial until I can observe her for a month. I want to make sure that nothing changes with her bowel movements or her behavior. Thus far, her skin is perfect, so that's a really positive sign.

Anyway, I didn't want to post here until I had some good news to report. I think this qualifies as good This whole summer's been good! We got cantaloupe back, too: Oh, and I tried strawberries two days in a row during our vacation, but she started to react so we stopped. I was thinking I might try them again later, but cooked in something instead of fresh.

That' so exciting. My DD's ND says she thinks it will be fine to do a dairy trial at 18 months (and her half birthday happens to be christmas day) so I'm going to plan to have all my fav holiday dishes with dairy lined up and ready to go since I couldn't have any of it last year. I hope we end up in the same boat as you - assuming no reactions come for your LO. Fingers crossed!!!!!! Woo Hoo.

Some things I would consider before trialing (this is all JMO):

How long has your dc been truly allergen free?

For an IgE allergy, I'd wait at least a year, preferably longer. I'm not going to trial corn or soy until my dd is 4, because they are the the worst (not reaction-wise, but avoidance-wise) of her allergies, imo. For a "sensitivity," I'd play it by ear. We waited 6 mths to reintro grapes and bananas. 12 or so for peppers and tomatoes. Just recently reintroed cantaloupe.

How old is your dc?

4 or 5 is the age at which most (80%) kids have outgrown their allergies, so the closer you can get to that, the better, imo.

What have you been doing for gut healing?

This is truly vital because I believe it's the reason that kids are keeping their allergies for longer or not outgrowing them at all. We westerners really need to make gut health a priority.

How long have you been working at your gut-healing regimen?

Again, it takes time for this healing to occur and it really can't be rushed.

AND, if it's possibly an anaphylactic allergy, DON'T trial it at home or without your allergist's okay. I'm going to have dd's seed allergies tested in the allergist's office at some point just for my own peace of mind (she's never show anything close to an ana reaction though).
