Sourdough and Sweetener, any ideas?

I was wondering if it is wise to add in sweetener into your sourdough bread? I have heard that it can bring less desirable "wild yeasts" so to speak...
Is this true? I also wondered if you could add other things like an egg or buttermilk, etc...

Could anyone help me out here?

I have never heard that adding a sweetener to your sourdough bread will attract wild yeasts. As for adding egg or buttermilk, it really depends on the bread recipe, and what you are trying to make. You can add anything to sourdough bread that you would to a regular bread recipe. The only thing you add to your starter to keep it fed is water and flour.

You might want to check out some sourdough cookbooks for ideas. I really like "Sourdough Cookery" by Rita Davenport (It's from the 70's, but has some awesome recipes). Some other good ones are:

Classic Sourdoughs: A Home Baker's Handbook by Ed Wood
World Sourdoughs from Antiquity by Ed Wood

There are *many* others out there, but these are a few we like to use.
