Does this sound like allergies to you?

DD has had a watery runny nose for a few days and has been sneezing. So has DH, who has always suffered from seasonal allergies. This morning DD woke up with a bloodshot eye that was very teary and was obviously bothering her enough to rub it occasionally (especially when she was trying to fall asleep for her nap). This eye happens to be the same eye that had a blocked tear duct when she was tiny and a nasty infection when she was 5 months old. It is always more likely to be watery or irritated if there is any reason for her eyes to have trouble (colds, etc.). She has a slight temperature (99.6 this afternoon, 100.1 at bedtime).

My friend suggested a poultice of shredded potato to help with the eye irritation, but DD wouldn't sit still long enough for it to do anything. Otherwise, we've done nothing to attempt to treat her symptoms. We got a cat a little over a month ago, and I'm wondering if he might be bothering her. I just read on babycenter (not my favorite source of info, but the first on a google search) that hayfever usually doesn't show up until 3 or 4 years (DD is 26 months) and that pet allergies can take a few months to show up. So I'm suspecting the cat. I was suspecting allergies in her a few days ago, and now the red eye is making me take it more seriously.

We are planning on leaving tomorrow to go away for a couple days, if she is feeling ok. I think it may be a good opportunity to see if being away from the cat and the fur in the house does anything for her symptoms.

What do you think? Do you have any experience with or brilliant knowledge about allergies like this in toddlers?

It does sound like allergies to me. Have you tried giving her Benadryl?
