chance of avocado allergy....

Hi,

My DS is 7 1/2 months old and hasnt had much solids yet (he isnt very interested). He has had minimal amounts of organic rice cereal w/ BM, organic sweet potatoes, organic carrots, and tiny bit of banana. I would like to give him avocado for all the healthy fats and vitamins and I am wondering if I would not have to worry about an allergy as he has been using a latex paci since birth and avocado is supposed to be in the latex fam. What do you think?

I am being careful because he's recently had 2 episodes of hives and we really dont know what it was or havent pinpointed it. My DH gave him whip cream and banana cream pie and potatoes that had eggs on them and he broke out in BAD hives. Then a week later we were at home, he ate no food whatsoever and he broke out again (not as bad) for no apparent reason. Really strange. Also just want to mention about the bananas.....he's only tried the baby food version 1-2x and didnt have a reaction either time, but I still dont know if the banana cream pie is what triggered the hives since i'm sure the pie had alot of other things in it.

Anyway, I stopped solids since then, but would like to give avocado when we try again.

Any advice? TIA

You can have a latex or avocado allergy w/out the other. Just go slow with the solids (1 food daily for 4 days) to see if a reaction occurs. And tell dh no more pie! I'd be concerned mainly about the dairy in that,

I'd be most worried about the dairy as well. Dairy and soy seem to be the big culprits. There is an allergy scale. I think somebody said it was joneja or something like that... it was in a thread on this forum....

Another vote for dairy.

I put the Joneja charts (of most/least allergenic foods) in the Starting Solids sticky.
