Anyways when i went yarn shopping last the lady at the yarn store asked why I wasn't using cotton instead? is wool better and why? Right now I'm using a cotton/wool blend but would like to make sure I'm not wasting my $$ as it was pretty spendy!!!

Wool works cause it repels the wetness. I think the yarn shop woman must have misunderstood what you were making-she probably thought you were making an actual diaper, not a diaper cover!
if you got enough, the wool/cotton blends are awesome for baby sweaters, too!!
