Tandem Nursing Moms

I am curious as to how many tandem nursing moms we have so far in the July DDC

We are now 10 days into tandem nursing and so far so good. Actually nursing has really helped my toddler adjust!!!

How are all the other tandem moms doing?

Doing well here, at 10 days postpartum! I was worried for awhile, though.

We barely made it through the pregnancy still nursing because *I* couldn't stand it. My 20 month old called colustrum "good!" when he'd get a mouthful. I couldn't nurse him for the first 5 days or so because my afterpains were so pain I'd have to unlatch the newborn to rock/breathe through them.

Then my older son nursed for the first time since the baby was born, got some of the transitional milk, and yelled "NO like it!" After that he'd latch on for less than a second at a time and then pull away with an upset expression on his face. It almost burst into tears several times.

Then two or three days ago he started nursing for real, happily, 3+ times a day : He's adjusting incredibly well to have a baby brother, too.

wow sonja!!!! you are the woman!!!

Jakob is just nursing a few times a day here, and once at night. It's going much better than I thought it would, and it was sooooo nice to poke him the other night when I was feeling insanely engorged and the baby was conked out.

my new baby isnt born yet, but i am tandem nursing my two youngest and will be 'triandem' nursing soon. i nursed 3 after my last was born, too, but my oldest weaned a year ago when he was 5.

i am looking forward to nursing someone with no teeth again.

i agree, an older nursling can really come in handy when you're engorged!

We're only on day 5 but it's going well so far. My newborn is a great nurser. My only problem is that for the last year and a half, my older DD was only nursing off of righty. Now I have a well primed right nipple and a flat left nipple. We are working on latching onto lefty but, other than that, tandem nursing is definitely helping with the adjustment.

Sonja & Tabitha WOW you gals are amazing!!!!!!!!!!

The difference between nursing a todler and a newborn is just so HUGE and yeah the no teeth is definitely a bonus

I often ask DS2 to empty my over full breasts and he is ever obliging, actually the more I offer the more he wants.

My only complaint is that I have to wear a bra for the first time in more years than I can remember as I am soooo huge.

My dd doesn't nurse every day & I am starting to think she is weaning herself.. But I keep offering it to her.. she's nursed with baby brother twice now but spends most of it "talking" with th enipple in he rmouth heh. It sucks for me as I always have too much milk and pumping doesn't always work for me. I was hoping she'd be way more into nursing... well, it'll be intersting to see how it goes.

Dude, it's MORE painful to nurse the newborn than it is my toddler. Call him experienced, I guess I also think DS2 may have a slight tongue-tie but not enough to cause problems other than a little pain.

Tandem nursing with my very jealous almost 2 year old means I don't bother wearing a shirt these days. And we have thrush...fun!!!
