Score of the century!!! Doing backflips over here!

I have recently become addicted to thrifting. Seriously, my DP is humoring me with "Oh, great find!"'s, but i know if I don't stop she's gonna start the butt kicking.

I had to post what I found in a thrift store today. I have never been into this particular store, but it's only a few miles from DD's school and thought I'd saunter in and see what they were about. I'm in the toy section looking at books (trying to find some classics to add to the collection) and..................there they were.

3 beautiful boxes of knobless cylinders!!! One green, one red, one yellow. Unfortunately no blue. The other unfortunate thing is that the red box only has 9 pcs. and the green and yellow only have 8 pcs., but I'm going to see if anybody can sell me replacement parts of those pieces. I know a lot of companies sell the smallest piece, but I'm hoping for the two smallest pcs. for the green and yellow. I literally screamed "OH MY GOD" in the store and my kids came running to me saying, "WHAT Mommy? WHAT?????" All 3 boxes for $3.99!!!!!!

Then, I turn the corner into the "wooden box/tray/misc." aisle and picked up this large tray thinking, "Hmmm...this could work for a home made moveable alphabet" and started to count the squares. Again, talking out loud to myself, I said, "Oh, PERFECT! This would work!" when I counted 27 squares. I was thinking that a moveable alphabet tray has a couple of extra boxes for the dots over the i and j (and maybe punctuation?). Then when I looked closely it said NIENHAUS made in Holland. Again, screaming "OH MY GOD!" I rushed to the register in disbelief. I looked on the Nienhaus website and it looks like the Medium tray that costs $109!!!! I got this one for $3.97 and it looks like it has never been used. It doesn't have a lid, but that's ok for $3.97!! WHOA!

:

Does anybody know where I might look for the extra pcs.? Also, do any of you know if any companies out there will sell me just the blue box of knobless cylinders?

Ha! I'm jealous.

The blue box can be purchased separately through any Montessori store. Should be able to purchase the extra pieces as well. You'll just have to call them and ask them.

Just tried Alison's Montessori and it will cost $20 to order the pieces. They won't sell just the blue box. I was hoping for under $10 for replacement pieces. Montessori Outlet sells replacement parts, but not what I need. I'll keep looking around.

How exciting! I love thrift stores too. You live really close to row of good ones too.

It's always neat when you can get deals like that on things you would like to have.

No suggestions on parts/replacements but wanted to add a congrats! You totally deserve the great deal, must be the good karma built up by re-using instead of buying new!!! Your post made me smile thinking of the times I've found just what no one else seemed to want and I'd been dying to find affordably, very satisfying feeling... like satisfying the modern version of the hunting/gathering instinct!

Anyway, rather long for a congrats post so I'll stop there... Congrats!

I have actually found several companies that sell replacement parts. It's going to cost about $20-$25 regardless of where I go. I think I just need to look at it as a) I recycled and b) many Montessori children have given them much love. Vintage knobless cylinders, if you will.

Kelly, I had to laugh because that is exactly how I feel when I find something when I'm thrifting. It is SO addicting!! It's even better when it's cheap - like only .29 cents! I have never carried a purse in my life, but I found this really awesome bag (it's more of a tote type bag) for .49 cents! I mostly carry my wallet, keys, glasses, and my DD's Leapster in it.
