Need pattern help

I have tried RRP, MammaBird, and WeeWeka Pocket. I like certain things about each of them, but I don't REALLY like anyone in particular. I like the RRP because they can be pinned and stuffed and are super easy to make. I don't like how it is so hard to make them fit ds. I cannot seem to get them to fit snugly. I like the MammaBird because they are fitted in the back and legs well, but I don't like the touchtape rubbing on ds skin. I also don't like the huge size difference between the small/medium and large. He seems to be right between those sizes right now. (I have no $ to invest in a snap press and don't have access to one either. So that is out of the question.) As for the WeeWeka Pockets, I like them, but they are really narrow in the middle which makes them hard to stuff and they are on the expensive side with the covers on them.

So is there a pattern out there that has what I want....a diaper that is similar to RRP, but easier to fit on DS that can be pinned and stuffed? Or do I just need to alter the patterns I have to fit my needs? I am not very talented when it comes to altering patterns or making my own.

I made some NB MamaBirds for dd and I also didn't like the velcro that I used, so I left it off and have a pinnable MamaBird. I like that much better. Now, however, I'm more fond of the RRP's. I especially like the version that has PUL/fleece. I LOVE those!

I have altered the RRP in a way that may suit your needs. I added elastic to the back to get a better fit and left the opening for stuffing at the front instead. I just estimated the amount of elastic based on other patterns.

So would you just fold the front instead of the back to get a better fit on a smaller baby?

I fold the front of my RRP to fit my baby. It never stayed on right when I folded the back down. I also had to play with how to fold it to get it to stay on right. Once I figured everything out they fit wonderfully and I have no more sagging and dropping and gapping problems.

Could you go into more details about how you fold them. Because if I can get it folded right to keep them from sagging and gaping, I would be thrilled to just make RRPs.

Lets see if I can explain it. I lay the diaper on the changing area. I fold the front wings towards the baby side of the diaper. Then I fold the front down toward the baby side of the diaper. I place baby on diaper, fold the front over baby, then wrap the back wings snuggly around the hips and pin. I don't have to pin through all the layers, because it seems having the extra material between the baby and the inside keeps it in place. I hope that helps. If you are confused, I can try to take some pictures and post them.

that sounds great! I'll have to give that a try today. Thanks.

Yeah! It works! : Now I can make more RRPs-with a slight modification I think.

I'm glad for you! RRP are so easy to make and I love using them. How small of a baby are you putting them on? I don't think I had any until my daughter was at least 4 months or so.

He is about 18/19 lbs and 8 mo. He just recently went through a growth spurt and put on 3 lbs in the last few weeks. But the tip still works until he has worn them for a while and is ready for a change. So it helps a lot. And I just made some more RRPs with the opening in the front and the elastic in the back. I haven't washed them yet, but am anxious to try them. Guess I'd better get on top of that laundry. Oh yeah, and I have been using two pins with them because it seems to hold them up better too.
