Well he said he was just checking the cervix. I don't know what sweeping membranes would be like? I think he would be good to tell me if he was doing anything extra?
He did say spotting or bleeding would be normal -and it has since tapered off to slightly pink tinged discharge now. But was a little shocked at the initial amount. Could this have jarred things enough to get things going though?

Hmm, I'm not sure.

My mw checked me on Monday and I had no spotting whatsoever, even though I felt her up there. Period type bleeding seems like a lot, even with expecting "bloody show" my mws have told me to call if I have more than an estimated 2 tbs. worth.

But, the other signs with it...sounds like maybe early labor? Hoping!

Wondering if he "stripped your membranes"...my doctor did that to me with dd#1...may get something going??? It didn't work for me...but yes, spotting was happening...Was definitely not as heavy as a period though...Hmm...maybe you should give him a ring and see if that's normal?

Whoa, I would be MAD if he stripped without asking. :
I agree the blood seems excessive for just a check. I'd call just to be sure.

another day without labor for me. today, baby disengaged, turned, and re-engaged in a different position. perhaps he is getting ready to come out some day? when he re-settled, my pelvis felt like it was breaking in two whenever i stood up. that has sorted itself out but things definitely feel different and lots more pressure down there.

my babies have never done that- once they are down they are down. not this one!

tonight would be a great night to have a baby. best wishes to all!

HulaJenn, I've had a few internals now, and had pretty heavy spotting after the first one (not really red blood, but lots of brown/red tinged CM that caused some staining before I managed to get ahold of a pad), no spotting after the second internal, and some very mild brown tinged spotting after the one today. So I think it can vary a lot, and I wouldn't assume that he stripped your membranes--I think it wouldn't hurt to call tomorrow, though, and mention the heavy spotting, and ask if they stripped you. I really would hope he'd ask before doing something like that!
