I found this on craigs list...

I am a first time mom to be, due in Novemeber, and I have pretty much everything I need, and now I'm just wondering, what else is there? i have/ i am getting all the needed things, i've already picked up the crib, and the bedding set, and i know what i'm basically getting at my shower... i'm just curious, if there's anything out of the oridnary that no one thinks of?? feel free to email me, and throw some suggestions out there.. thanks

I really want to send some info on RIC if I only send one link which one should I send??

Should I send here here or to a specific circ site (nocirc)??

I would send her to www.nocirc.org --really informative, concise, and non-judgmental, IMO.
And invite her to come to Mothering, not necessarily to the CAC only, but to the entire discussions site.... It's hard being a first time mom, and there are lots of sensible people here and much info that she would have to "dig" for elsewhere. If she's like most in the US, circ (and vaccines, c-sections, OB delivery, etc, etc) is normal and the CAC board can be intimidating

This is what I wrote....

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!!!

I have two boys myself a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old. I remember
the excitement of becoming a mom and all the stuff and research and
advice everyone gives....One of the BEST pieces of information was to
research circumcision. Once I started doing research into
Routine Infant Circumcision, I knew that I couldn't allow that to happen
to my baby.

I have attached to links for you to look up yourself.

I really hope you take the time to look these up. I found them to be eye
opening.

Good luck and if you have and questions please feel free to contact me
back.

Thanks and congratulations again!!!

This is what I got back.....

Wow, I just read that article you sent me, and I've been back and forth
with this whole thing. This really helped me make up my mind. He isn't
circumcised, and it's been a very tough thing to try and decided. His
mom said that they didn't have it done, because his dad isn't
circumcised as well, and not only that, just for the simple fact, that
if it wasn't needed there, it wouldn't be there. We are pretty
main-stream as well. I think where I was leaning towards it before, was
because I've never seen an uncircumcised man, until I met Matt. And it
was very strange, and unusual at first, and I was "grossed" out per say
by it, but over time, ( 4 1/2 years later), I'm over it.

While her comment about the first encounter w/ the intact penis being "gross" is a common experience, it still irks me that American women are brainwashed to believe this. :

Thanks for all your work!

Yeah, I don't ever get the gross comments. Like what's so gross. It's freakin skin like everywhere else on the body. It's not as if an intestine is hanging there, lol. Plus, there is nothing about a baby that's gross. Different is a much better term. It's like me saying vaginas are gross. They are not beautiful, but they are not gross. Genitals in general are sort of ugly, and in the heat of passion nobody cares about looks.

I am glad you took the time to send her that information. Just goes to show 1 person can make a real difference.

Wow! So the links you sent her help her decided not to circ? That's wonderful! Yay for Craig's List!
Thank you for taking the time to contact her!

Sorry, but my first encounter with *any* penis was gross, just happened to be circ'd but I have a feeling that even if it was intact, I would have thought it was gross.

I'm so glad you helped tip the mom to the humane way!
That is so weird that's she's considering it if the husband isn't done. It seems like that oh so common argument that he should look like daddy isn't used much when it's the other way around?

Hey, good for you! It's so good to hear about an instance where giving info really makes a difference.

Yeah, really. Actually the first time I saw one (my 3rd boyfriend) I thought it was kind of interesting, and more "natural" looking than the circumcised ones I'd seen before. But I'm weird.
