Was ds retracted?

My ds is 10 months old, and has never been retracted (as far as I know). My MIL watched him 2 days ago for a couple of hours, and did change his diaper, which she usually doesn't. I think she is intimidated by the intact penis, honestly, because she will leave him in a very wet diaper and let me change him when I come back (she watches him for 3 hours a week when I go to the chiropractor) rather than change him herself. Anyway, on Tuesday, she did change him, because later I noticed the diaper was backwards

It wasn't til today that I noticed the end of his foreskin was red and looked a little inflamed. I didn't notice anything amiss yesterday when I gave him a bath, so maybe its completely unrelated, but it really looks as though the little perforations were torn. The foreskin is red on the end, and when I gently pulled it back a little, there are 2 or 3 little red sore spots on the "inside" of the foreskin. It also looked a little oozy, which has never happened before.I don't really know what the glans is supposed to look like because I've never pulled the foreskin back to look, but when I took a peek today, it looked very red up in there.

If it had been retracted 2 days ago, would it take this long to become inflamed? Or is it maybe not even related to my MIL/retraction and could be something else?

I pretty sure that he wasn't retracted. I only say that because its not easy to do and I'm sure he would have been screaming when it happened, which would stop most people from continuing. My son's foreskin would get a little irritated every now and then, and it could be more from being in a wet diaper too long or a reaction to something in the soap from the bath. If it was from a retraction you would have seen some irritation right away and he would have been fussy and crying. Still, I would definantly talk to her and just say something like, "When you change his diaper you don't have to do anything special with his penis, just wipe it off like a finger." My mom refused to change my son as well until I told her not to worry, that the foreskin was attached to the head of the penis like a finger nail was attached to a finger. I always told the same thing to any caretaker that might be changing his diaper.

Okay, thanks for the reassurance. It just looked so red and oozy that I was a little worried. I will probably mention to MIL (again) that no special care is needed. I've told her before, but I don't think she believes me.

could have been manipulated but not retracted. When ds was manipulated by 2 doctors it took a day for me to see the redness.

The foreskin can be retracted some even if not all the way. If you read the Definition of Retraction sticky you will see what I mean. It can take 24hours for things to show sometimes especially if only slight retraction was done. I dont think it would take 2 days though it might if there were micro tears and bacteria entered a day or so after.

The only way to know for sure is to ask her if she pushed any at all on his foreskin.
