My DS 27 mths is allergic to dairy, nuts, beans the whole nine yards... i got some advice on this forum regarding nutritional yeast to add proteins to his diet. yesterday i tried Red Star nutritional yeast just a sprinkle (less than 1/2 teaspoon) on his rice. (it said on the box to add it to anything). couple hrs later my son threw up everything and has been itching since then m so upset..he is allergic to every nutritional alternative i try....just venting...why me??????????

Vent away...

Have you tried quinoa? It's an excellent, whole protein source.

that sucks, i'm sorry . For a long time, for us everything that had protein was out, plus grains inc. quinoa, blah blah... she didnt heal until i took out all grains in addition to everything else that is a prob and started enzymes, clo, vits, etc. then one day, i tried some legumes and she was fine. then i started rotating a bunch of beans and some seeds and a couple nuts and so far so good.
it is just so hard when all you want to do is heal them and give them things that are supposed to help and be good for them, but it winds up hurting them again. you're doing the best you can, mama.

I'm sorry to hear your LO reacted to the nutritional yeast. It's so frustrating to be set back again, and so hard to watch your LO suffer.
I would second the quinoa recommendation.

thanks u guys...only this forum keeps me going...it may sound silly but what exactly is gut healing? i have heard it here so much but how do i go about it? should i consult some kind of a professional.. sorry sounds dumb but i have no clue

Not dumb at all. I had never heard of it before I found these mamas!!

Basically, when you have a food intolerance, there is some some of damage in your guy (digestive track) that is letting in these large food proteins that it shouldn't be letting in. So to try and heal (and maybe get over the intolerance), you want to avoid the bad foods as well as healing the gut damage. There is a sticky in the Health and Healing section I think, but some of the gut healing measures are:
- bone broth (has glutamine, which helps rebuild the lining of the gut)
- probiotics - helps recolonize the gut with good bacteria, and push out the bad bacteria
- CLO (cod liver oil)
- digestive enzymes - helps break down your food, so that your body doesn't have to work as hard; also helps clean up 'dead' tissue in the gut
- .... what else am I forgetting ladies?

What is the Red Star nutritional yeast grown on? I buy a yeast that's grown on beet molasses- I once bought some that tasted horrible that was grown on something else, I forget what but it wasn't gluten-free and I ended up throwing it out unfinished.

If he can tolerate some sort of meat, I'd offer him liver in the same animal- liver has many of the same vitamins (especially B vitamins) that are found in yeast.

I believe Red Star is grown on molasses as well- I'm not sure if it's beet or cane source though.
The OP is vegetarian, so I doubt animal liver is an option she would consider.

Ah, no, liver is most definitely not vegetarian! And I'm smart enough to know that fish liver isn't vegetarian either. Are eggs a problem too?

People with candida often cross react to nutritional, brewers and bakers yeast.
