Transition from Montessori to Sudbury?

We have our two oldest children in a wonderful Montessori preschool and they will also attend a Montessori charter from K-8 (or possibly a private Montessori). Yesterday, I picked up a local parenting magazine and saw an ad for a local Sudbury school a few miles from my house. I had no idea it was there!! I can't ever imagine anything but Montessori for my children, but after 8th grade they will have to transfer to a public or private high school. I was wondering how a Montessori student would fit into a Sudbury school. I think Montessori would prepare the child to be extremely independent and it seems like it would be a natural fit.

Of course I have 9 years to figure it all out! : I'm just curious and want to learn more about Sudbury since we now have that option.

I think of all the possible schooling options for students to trasition to after Montessori, Sudbury would be the most ideal.

It is my 2nd choice, after Montessori. I just don't have either option at the moment

But maybe, just maybe, by the time your LO is at that point, there will be more Montessori Highschools as an option.

My guess is that a M schooled child will flourish in a Sudbury school. The pedagogy is similar in many aspects, and the fact that they will already be so independant in their learning seems like it would be a good fit.

Thanks Katie! That is exactly what I was thinking. I'm definitely going to keep it as an option. I was also hoping more Mama's that were into Sudbury would chime in and give me their take on it. Thanks for responding!

I am actually planning to do something similar-- Montessori for preschool- however long the Montessori program lasts (they've just expanded into kindergarten, and are talking about expanding into elementary), then Sudbury. I think it's a pretty good fit... Montessori encourages autonomy and they'll HAVE to have the ability to learn/ think independently to thrive in Sudbury.
