book recommendations

Hi all:

I'm writing a piece on the power of bfing to transform culture, and I need to get my history right.

I'd love to hear about these 2 books:

Milk, Money, and Madness: The Culture and Politics of Breastfeeding
Mother's Milk: Breastfeeding Controversies in American Culture

I can only afford to buy 1 of them & my library does not carry either. Which would you recommend & why?

Other book recommendations are welcome.

Thanks!

I haven't read either, but as a librarian I'm totally going to look into them. One book I really liked that talks about the bio-anthropology of baby rearing was "Our Babies, Ourselves" by Meredith Small...

did you ask about getting an inter-library loan? libraries often have agreements with other libraries where they loan books to each other that customers want.

They're not in the entire system, sadly

I'll check out Our Babies Ourselves--thanks!

Milk, Money and Madness is AMAZING and has tons of historical information. You cannot go wrong with it.

I have not read the other book.

I agree that Milk, Money and Madness is great. I do think this title best fits with your topics.I haven't read the other, but it's perpetually on my wish list.

Our Babies, Ourselves is also great, I agree.

I'm also an avid reader, especially devouring breastfeeding books.

I read both of them, & found both to be interesting - it's been a while though, so I can't remember specifics. Have you checked w/your local LLL lending library, or w/any Bradley teachers in the area you could borrow from? I ended up donating the copies I had to a Bradley instructor.
