Adventures in Nakey Newborn Photography

Sooooo, naked newborns. They're nice. But, apparently there's some kind of art to wrangling them that I don't know about.

This is how this my attempt went (keep in mind DH's sleeping & I'm wrangling a very loud 2 yo during this all):
- Roman wakes up & I check to see if his cord is still on. Thankfully YES, but just barely! I didn't get a naked shot of it yet!
- I set up the photography area.
- I nurse him to sleep & then take off his clothes... his cord is gone.
- I find the cord stump lost in the carpet.
- Sunlight has moved, I reposition the blanket.
- Roman wakes up & pees on me.
- Toddler destroys photo area while I wipe Roman off.
- I get Roman back to sleep.
- I set up photo area again, adjust for the moving sun.
- While standing up to get my camera, Roman poops with incredible force showering the entire area with yellow curry poop.

Somehow, I managed to get this one shot by propping his cord stump back over his belly button... before the cat stealthily stole the stump while I repositioned Roman.

Awwww, those pictures are precious.
I actually had a friend take naked pictures of Zoe at 2 weeks old (the cord had already fallen off). My usually mellow baby decided NOT to be mellow just that day. She cried a lot, and kept wanting to scooch away from the props. She also pooped forcefully 5 times (!!!!!!!!!!) and peed twice. There was a lot of cleaning involved. After my friend photographer packed everything away, Zoe finally fell asleep, so she got out all of her equipment again, and we likely got the best pictures then. I can't wait to see them.

Oh! I hope you can post some of the pics!!! What kind of "props" did your friend use? I love to take pictures, but I run out of ideas beyond the sheepskin blanket!

Nakey newborn wrangling... there must be a handbook about that somewhere!!!

Well, she used an upturned laundry basket with cloth draped over it so that Zoe lay on top of it. She kept scooching towards one corner, so we worried she'd fall off. Plus, she would no longer be centered.
Also, my friend used fake sunflowers around Zoe. She had different backgrounds also, like a black velvety cloth, the sheepskin, and just a plain white background. Oooh, and a basket.

Oooh, a basket! That would be a good one.

I just bought some tulle from a fabric shop to try to do something like this...

Those are beautiful pics! So cute! I love to take pictures, but mine are always looking more amaturish. But I keep trying.

I really want to take a nakey pic of baby with me nursing him. But it is hard to do myself!

A beautiful one I saw, if you are religious, was just a huge huge huge book laid open and baby sleeping on his stomach on top of the book, and the top of the pic had a Bible verse written in

Also, in a very large bowl... in guitar cases... on chairs or other various furniture with unique prints...

Beautiful pictures, especially considering your working conditions! I'm going to have to try some of those whenever this baby decides to show up!!

Oh wow those are beautiful!

I want to do some too now. How long are babies considered newborns? Mine is one month today and she is huge! I try to take pictures everyday just because it's going by so fast.

Aww, thanks for liking the shots of my lil guy. At some point, I'll probably pull down the pictures just so they aren't hanging out for all of cyberspace. but, you can always pm me to see them.

Oooh, those are all great ideas! I suppose if you weren't religious, you could do the book & then a quote from the karma sutra about hoe conception occurs.

Those are amazing pictures! And the story of the adventure to get them very entertaining I wish I had even a fraction of your talent at photography. But it reminds me that I should get more pictures of Leo.

Hey Spark, I was just thinking of you today so came to see if you had the babe yet. Another gorgeous baby for the Spark family. As Steve always says, "When you find something you do well, keep doing it". Congratulations. I am so happy for you and your perfect family.

PS I'll be right by your house Thursday, ds has a track meet at that big school just Northeast of you.
