Yikes Holly! Glad you guys are all okay. I have been caught hiking in thunder and lightening before and it is terrifying.

That is scary! We just got caught in a bad storm like that while outside at a festival a couple weeks ago. I remember how bad it was and how upset my kids were and it was only a 10min walk back to the car. I was shaking after just that, let alone what you went through.

Just wondering, would they have let you stay at the lodge?

was that the family in Oregon? If it was, it was a mom and her infant and possibly 4 or 5 year old and dad went to search for help. The 3 of them were in the car for like 3 days and mom nursed, then, both children (4 year old I'm guessing wasn't nursing anymore) I don't remember if they ever found dad.

IT was an asian looking family--if anyone else remembers.

Yes, dad unfortunately died looking for help. Mom and both kids survived from breastmilk.
