Need a Good Book

I hope this is the correct forum to post this in.

A friend of mine is newly pregnant for the first time and wants to breastfeed for a year. She expressed concern about people getting "weirded out" about nursing beyond a year, especially in public, although she personally wouldn't be "weirded out".

Anyway, what would be a good book for me to buy her as a congratulatory gift that would give her info on

A. Preparation for any challenges (such as the impact of formula supplementation/milk supply)

B. Pumping (She works full time.)

C. Nursing a toddler

D. Anything else I haven't thought of (probably a lot)?

TIA!

A nice, upbeat, easy intro bf'ing book is "So That's What They're For!"
Has a section on working mammas/pumping, as I recall.

Totally agree, and it's inexpensive, if I recall. I would also suggest Dr. Sears' "The Breastfeeding Book," which is loaded with good information, too. He tends to have more of an AP mindset.

Good luck!

"Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers" is really approachable, entertaining and generally awesome. Covers everything mentioned.

I love "The Nursing Mother's Companion" by Kathleen Huggins

DH referenced it last week in our Dr's office while I was there with mastitis (yeow!) and he made me proud that he was so aware!

The book is divided into sections for before baby comes, the first two weeks, the first two months, and the first two years. Each section tells you what to expect from baby, challenges that are common and how to get through it. Its a great reference book with good pencil drawings.

LLL's The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, Mothering Your Nursing Toddler

I also think there's a book called Nursing Mother Working Mother that's good

A. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League International

B. Nursing Mother, Working Mother by Gale Pryor

C. Mothering Your Nursing Toddler by Norma Jane Bumgarner

D. Every single thing in a La Leche League Group library

Good for you for supporting your friend! I think the top three would be a great start.

i really liked "so that's what they're for!" too...i think that's a fantastic beginner book because it's more entertaining than most...it really helped get me enthused and confident about breastfeeding. it's the only bf book i even partially got through before my ds was born...the rest of my bf books i used on an "as needed" basis after the birth because they were so bland.

good luck to your friend!
