**August No Spend Challenge** - We are in the home stretch...you can do it!! - Page 17

I've joined this thread a few times and never stuck it out. I need to do this, stop putting it off. My frivolous spending is out of control. I am starting today!

August 16 - : $32 on dinner out and ice cream
August 17 - $40
Still going strong here. DH was gone for the weekend and then I took the kids to visit a friend at her cabin up north - spent only gas, plus a quick and relatively cheap diner lunch on the way home (planned for). I got better mileage than I expected and thus spent less on gas for the trip.

Now I'm in the part of the month where I feel less flush and start to panic, especially with DH probably being laid off in 3-4 months. We have everything we need, but it's hard to wait another two weeks to buy anything, and even then I will need to resist the temptation to "stock up." I'm already "stocked up" on just about everything I can think of. I start to feel insecure and want to make myself feel more secure by buying something I think we might need. But I won't. Hey, at least I know my pattern now...

My plan is to stay home as much as possible. Stay out of stores. If I'm not there, I can't spend anything.

Hi, everyone, I'm going to jump on board for the rest of the month.

Today is a good day for me to start. I went to town, did not stop at the tag sales, pasted the farmer's market, and cashed in our change at the bank. Only took money out for cars for the week.

I am joining because we need to save as much as possible. Hopefully this will keep me on track.

16. : : NOK 367,50 (= $ 67), NOK 70 (= $ 13) sewing thread, NOK 89 (= $ 16) birthday present, had to use drier because of urgent need for clean sheet (bad planning)! Finished clearing downstairs closet and moving my clothes into it (part of preparation for renting out upstairs).

Status / results (starting August 2nd:

3/30 + 12/30 = 15/30
: 15/30, NOK 2242,50/5000 - this is good, we're half way and haven't spent half the groceries money yet!
NOK 6117 - all necessary, but way too much considering we don't have money!:
: 8/4, NOK 365 - doing good
: 0/20000
: 7/20 - this one is hard - can't find three hours every day, but have often managed two.
: 9/30
10/26
12/30 - failing this one!

August 17th-$10 on ice to keep coolers cold with food, while DH fixed the fridge. He did fix it so even though we spent $10 on water we saved hundreds on a fridge! (And he painted the wall behind it while it was pulled out, not to mention how clean everything is!)

Hi all!
I know it's more than half-way through the month, but I'm jumping on the wagon! It will be a good way to start, with a partial month.

My name is Laura and I'm a SAHM to twin girls, Arvelle and Sylvanna. My "job" is to live as frugally as possible b/c my husband has to work OT to pay for any extras and I want him home as much as possible!

We just moved into a new home and we FINALLY, last week, got the rest of what we needed for it. I handed DH the CC and said "we're done". We agreed to spend nothing more for as long as we can. We need to pay off the credit cards for all the things we had to buy for the house.

I get $60 bi-month in my checking for personal needs. My goal is to spend half of this money - so $60 a month on things like "emergency" eatting out and other un-necc things.

I will report any spending of this money or beyond. I will not report needed spending - bills, groceries, gas, etc.

Great to be here and good luck to everyone!

- Laura

Although my month looks good so far and DH and I have been oh so thrifty, I have to share my frustration with our financial situation. I know I shouldn't complain, because were not starving or anything, but things are extremely tight and I can never seem to get ahead (or save). Each month we spend more than we earn because all sorts of major expenses come up. This month I had to pay $800 for one lousy credit hour for my PhD. Then there was another $200 that I paid to reserve a spot in a new daycare for my son for next spring. I have to remind myself that these expenses will pay off in the long run - because I will be able to complete my degree. But it stinks because I thought that I might actually be able to save some money this month, and instead we are in the red. And as you can see from my record below, we have been very frugal. Sorry for the rant, I'm just fed up with try so hard to save and never making it happen! <sigh>
