How to quit my job?

Hello! I never post here, but...

I just (2 months ago) started working for a local CSA (farm that delivers produce to the community). When I was hired, it was to be 10-20 hours a week, just light office type work. Return emails, phone calls, etc. Well, since I have been on the job this long, I have come to see how DISORGANIZED this place is. As in, there is absolutely no organization & I am supposed to be the 1 to get everything organized. Basically build the business from the ground up, behind the scenes, so to speak.

Obviously, this was not what I signed on for. The hours are getting to be longer and longer each week. I have 2 small children, I homeschool, I am in training to be a yoga teacher and I run a health food co-op in our town. I don't need this much more on my plate. I need to quit. I truly should have thought more about it before I said I would work for them, but I did not, so that is water under the bridge.

Here is my question (finally ): in this type of situation, what is the appropriate amount of notice to give? I am at the point where I am ready to just phone in my resignation, but I feel that would be very inappropriate of me. I am just that frustrated with the job. I love the idea behind it and my boss is truly a sweet woman, but...

I guess I should add that I don't need this job for money. I only did it for the produce that I would get for free. I don't plan on ever putting this job on a resume.

Ok, I will await your replies!

I'd give a week and just tell them it's not working out.

I think two weeks notice is a normal standard. That will give your owner enough time to replace somone for your position.

Have you tried talking to your boss and telling her what you're thinking?

Perhaps she doesn't realize how disorganized she is? And perhaps she doesn't realize that you are unhappy with the situation.

Before you turn in your two weeks notice, sit down with her, explain how you are feeling and ask her how she would like to resolve the situation. Perhaps the two of you can work together on a plan to reorganize the office without taking over your life.

Of course, if you've already done this, or if you try it and it doesn't work, there's the two week notice already mentioned...
