making a weighted bunting style doll?

I am interested in making a weighted bunting style doll for dd this christmas. I have never made a doll before but I am captivated by the idea of a weighted doll. How hard is it? Are there any decently priced kits/patterns available?

If you can sew you can do it. I have purchased kits in the past, but now I just decide on the style I'm wanting and then make my own pattern from there. It takes a little more time, but for me it's worth it. Depening on the size, a yard of fabric can make a few dolls and ric and sand are cheap fillers for weight.
